November 28, 1930 - April 12, 2017Maria Rippentrop, 86, of Buffalo Center, died on Wednesday, April 12, 2017, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center.
A daughter of Antonio and Giuseppina (Sluga) Garbeis, Maria Lucia Rippentrop was born on November 28, 1930, in Trieste, Italy. She married Calvin Lee Rippentrop on August 13, 1952, in Trieste, Italy.
Maria and Calvin had made their home in Buffalo Center since 1953. Coming to the United States, she had to learn a new language and a new culture. Beginning as a seamstress, she worked at Wilson Clothing for several years before starting her own business, the "Fabric Village," in 1971. Maria enjoyed traveling, gardening, and tending to her flowers, especially her geraniums.
She is survived by her husband, Calvin, of Buffalo Center; two children, Allan (Dolores) Rippentrop, of Buffalo Center, and Lori (Ron) Coleman, of Chanhassen, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Rob (Kristy) Rippentrop, Amber Wubben, Natalie (Matt) Neil, and Rachel (Seth) Drury; and five great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Wubben and Skyler, Samantha, and Hayden Rippentrop; a brother, Sergio; a sister, Silvana, of Italy; and a special niece she spoke with frequently, Ondina. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.
A funeral service will be held on Monday, April 17, 2017, at 10:30 at the First Congregational Church, Buffalo Center. Visitation will be for one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
