Les A. Wubben
December 18, 1955 - April 5, 2017Les Alan Wubben, a son of Raemon and Annabel (Russ) Wubben, was born on December 18, 1955, in Albert Lea, Minnesota. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Rake High School. Les, then, attended Waldorf College and Iowa State University, majoring in Agriculture Education. He, subsequently, taught agriculture education for the Klemme School District before moving back home to take care of the family farm and his parents. On June 8, 1991, Les married Jodi Bruhns at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center. They raised their three children in Buffalo Center and remained active in the community.
Les enjoyed many activities. He loved to garden, especially when the time came to pick the tomatoes, so Jodi could make an endless supply of salsa. He, also, enjoyed helping others in any way he could. For example, he would check in with the elderly and pick up sticks in the neighbors’ yards. Employed at North Iowa Community Schools for twenty-six years, he invested just as much time with his job, co-workers, and students as with his own family. In addition, he, loyally, invested his time and talent to serving on the Buffalo Center City Council and to developing J & L Landscaping, his personal business where he built authentic relationships with his customers. In short, a very caring person, he was, always, willing to help his children, neighbors, and community as needed.
Recently, Les had been struggling with his health, but he had been fighting diabetes for a long time. He passed away peacefully with a Diet Coke in his hand on Wednesday, April 5, 2017. At 61, he had only 271 days to go before he could retire. He had planned to invest even more time and effort with his family, friends, and community.
Les is survived by his wife, Jodi Wubben; his children: Anthony (significant other, Kailee Russell), Jonathan, and Laura Wubben; his dog, Peanut; his brothers, Jim (Sue) and Donald Wubben; his father- and mother-in-law, Francis "Fritz" (Bonnie) Bruhns; his brother-in-law, Doug (Shannon) Bruhns; his sister-in-law, Julie (Doug) Goodman; his nieces, Amanda (Josh) Weister, Melissa (Anthony) Aukes, Jessica Wubben, and Amanda Goodman; his nephews, Phillip (Christina) and Alex (Erin) Rice and Jeremy and Kyle Goodman; and his great nephew, Reed Aukes. He was preceded in death by his parents and his paternal and maternal grandparents.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Tuesday, April 11, 2017, at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Reverend William Peake officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Oakcrest Funeral Services Winter Chapel, Buffalo Center. Interment will follow at the West Rake Cemetery.
