Adoline Martinson
July 20, 1933 - March 31, 2017

Adoline Martinson, age 83, of Radcliffe, Iowa, passed away peacefully in her husband's arms on Friday, March 31, 2017, at Bethany Life Communities in Story City, Iowa.

Adoline Maxine (Maakestad) Martinson, one of seven children born to Maynard and Jennie (Langfald) Maakestad, was born on July 20, 1933, on a farm outside Leland, Iowa. She attended the school in Leland for the first eight grades and then transferred to the Forest City High School, graduating in 1951. Next, she and her best friend, Kathy Olson, moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the Encyclopedia Americana, quite an adventure for two small town girls. Returning to Forest City in 1952, she worked for Dr. Norris, an optometrist, until 1953.

On June 20, 1953, Adoline married Dale Martinson at the Center Lutheran Church, rural Leland. They moved to Decorah where Dale attended Luther College until they moved to Radcliffe in August of 1955. In 1963, they moved to Hampton where Dale taught high school science. Dale and Adoline returned to Radcliffe where Dale worked with insurance for the Radcliffe Bank.

Adoline loved her role as a mom. Indeed, many, even, regarded her as their second mom. In addition, she worked at Donnelly's Advertising Company in Nevada for two years. Next, the Radcliffe Lumber Company employed her for fourteen years before she retired in 1985. After Dale retired in 1999, they took on delivering Winnebago Motorhomes to dealers all over the U.S., enjoying and visiting with family and friends along the way.

Her hobbies included entertaining, bargain hunting with her daughter, finding a way to help anyone in need, bowling, golfing, and taking part in church activities. She was an excellent Kringla baker as well.

A member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church, its choir, and ELCW, she, also, held a lifetime membership in The Needle Circle.

Those remaining to cherish her memory include her husband, Dale, of Radcliffe, Iowa; her five children: Randy (Betty) Martinson, of Hubbard, Iowa, Rhonda (Jack) Frans, of South Bend, Nebraska, Rick (Mary) Martinson, of The Dalles, Oregon, Reggy (Donna) Martinson, of Vancouver, Washington, and Rory (Joyce) Martinson, of Spirit Lake, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; her brother, Duane (Bud) (Jean) Maakestad, of Fairmont, Minnesota; her brother-in-law, Eldon Willis, of Forest City, Iowa; two sisters-in-law, Elaine (Jack) Thurston and Mary Ann Evans, all of Forest City, Iowa; along with other relatives and friends.

Adoline was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, Mertie Tweeten, Irene Dolan, Opal Browning, Olina Willis; and her brother, Merle.
