Stanley LeRoy Holstad
January 07, 1938 - April 16, 2017

At home, surrounded by his family, Stanley LeRoy Holstad, 79, of Lake Mills, passed away from cancer on Sunday, April 16, 2017.

Stan was born on January 7, 1938, at home to Morris and Alice (Brunsvold) Holstad. Baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, he graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1956. Next, he worked at various odd jobs leading up to his ten-year career at the lumber yard followed by a thirty-two-year career at Fleetguard in Lake Mills where he shared many games and memories with his co-workers and friends.

On May 22, 1965, Stan married Barbara Ann Haugh, his wife of fifty-two years, at St. James’ Catholic Church, Forest City. Subsequently, they were blessed with three children. Indeed, his three children, ten grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren were to become his pride and joy. His face would, always, light up as soon as they came through the door. Fortunately, all ten of his grandchildren were able to share in his last days.

Family, golfing, and fishing formed the cornerstones of Stan’s life. When his children were young, they all enjoyed spending time on the lake fishing together. As he practiced his golf game, however, he, also, developed a love for the time he spent out on the golf course either alone or with his loved ones. When he wasn’t golfing or working, Stan would be doing woodworking projects. He had a passion for showing his creativity and skill through his art, and he enjoyed sharing his talent with others. Moreover, he loved to tell stories and have a good laugh with those around him. His entire family will, forever, remember him as a tough man with a strong work ethic who loved his family unconditionally.

Stan’s survivors include his wife, Barbara Holstad; his three children: Steven (Stacey) Holstad, of Eagan, Minnesota, Terri (Steve) Meyer, of Joice, and Amy (Les) Prange, of Wells, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Ray (Starr) Fjelstad; Cameo (Beau) Honsey, of Riverside; Ben and Jake Meyer, of Colorado Springs, Colorado; Sierra Holstad, of San Francisco, California; Andy Meyer; Hannah Holstad, of Lake Mills; Caleb, Conner, and Riley Prange, all of Wells, Minnesota; five great-grandchildren; five siblings: Artis (Vernon) Holstad, of Plano, Texas; Gwen (Lee) Brown, of Rockford, Illinois; Harold Holstad, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; Eldren (Janell) Holstad, of Spencer; and Richard Holstad; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Stan is preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Alice Holstad; his brother, Marlin Holstad, of Union City, Tennessee; and his sister-in-law, Jeannie (Neilson) Holstad, of Albert Lea, Minnesota.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, April 23, 2017, from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. at the Truman Helgeson Civic Center, 227 W Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in Stan’s memory.

Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 2017.
