September 25, 1967 - March 23, 2017

Cindy Sue Flatness, 49, of Lake Mills, Iowa, formerly of Wells and Albert Lea, Minnesota, passed away unexpectedly at her home in Lake Mills on Thursday, March 23, 2017.

A daughter of Wayne C. and Carol (Warner) Herme, Cindy Sue as born on September 25, 1967, in Winnebago, Minnesota. She attended and graduated from Wells High School with the Class of 1986. On October 11, 1986, she married Daniel Morris Flatness in Wells, Minnesota.

Cindy worked at Subway in Lake Mills for her friends Shellene Norris and Scott Fjelstad. She enjoyed doing crafts and crossword puzzles. She loved her family and spending time with her grandchildren (She had a nickname for each one.), swimming and other such activities, going for walks, spending time in parks, participating in sleepovers, and watching movies.

Those left to cherish her memory include her two children, her daughter, Kristine (Matthew) Jurgena, and her son, James Flatness, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; her grandchildren, Alexia, 10, Korey, 4, Ryan, 7 months, Owen, 10, and Paisley, 5; her special friend, Dave Groff, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; her brother, Leonard (Carol) Herme, of Wells, Minnesota; and her sister, Kaylene (Jamie) Kollos, of Eagle Lake, Minnesota; along with her “special family” Ashley and Ben Mannes (Aidan and Kennedy) Krystal and James Melton (Shana, Natalie, Sookie and Evan), Sharon and Mel Distad.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her grandparents, and several uncles.

Cindy’s family will be celebrating her life with a Memorial Visitation between 4:00 and 7:00 PM, Saturday, April 1, 2017, at the Darrel Beenken Scout Center, 309 N 3rd Avenue W, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, is overseeing the arrangements. Memorials may be mailed to Kristine Jurgena, 108 N Grant Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450.
