Richard Paul Brighton
May 23, 1948 - February 14, 2017

Richard P. Brighton, 68, from Forest City, Iowa, died at his home on Tuesday, February 14, 2017.

Richard Paul Brighton was born on May 23, 1948, in Forest City, Iowa, to Ralph and Elizabeth Jo (Hanson) Brighton. He attended and then graduated from Forest City High School in 1967. While attending North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC) in Mason City, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served from April 8, 1970, until January 6, 1976.

On September 24, 1972, Richard married Patty Book. Subsequently, they had three daughters, Teresa, Ann, and Lois. On October 28, 2006, married Donna Peterson at Center Lutheran Church, rural Leland. They made their home in rural Forest City.

Through the years, Richard worked as a dairy farmer with his parents until 1993. Then, he moved to Lake Mills and found employment at Fleetguard Industries. Most recently, he worked as a truck driver for Hueneman Farms in Garner. He enjoyed gardening and Moline Tractors. In addition, he loved his dogs Midnight and Dino as well as Gilbert, the cat.

Survivors include his wife, Donna, of Forest City, Iowa; two daughters, Ann Brighton (Paul Armstrong), of Buffalo Center, Iowa, and Lois Gordon (Gary Malone) of Mason City, Iowa; his step-daughter Patricia (Steven) Truscheff, of Forest City, Iowa; his step-son Travis (Staci) Truscheff, of Ogden, Iowa; his grandchildren Andrew (Ambere) and Courtney Niles and Michael (Miranada) and Carl Gordon; his step-grandchildren Chelsey Armstrong, and Cody, Dustin, and Emma Miller; and his great-grandsons, Axel and Adam Niles; his brother, Ralph (Jan) Brighton II, in Colorado; three nephews, Ralph III, Randy, and Jon Brighton; a niece, Michelle Engelken; two brothers-in-law, Larry (Kris) Peterson of Crystal Lake, Iowa, and Gary Peterson, of Eldora, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Barbara Peterson, of Forest City, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Teresa Niles, in 2016.

Visitation will be from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Saturday, February, 18, 2017, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills with a Prayer Service at 3:00 PM officiated by Pastor Thomas Rank. Leland VFW Post #6161 will conduct the military honors. Richard requested his body be cremated after the prayer service. Inurnment will take place at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City at a later date.
