October 27, 1928 - January 31, 2017

FOREST CITY – Phillip E. Rasmussen, 88, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, January 31, 2017, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City.

Phillip Eugene Rasmussen, a son of Joseph and Anena (Carlsen) Rasmussen, was born on October 27, 1928, at Lindsay, Nebraska. At an early age, he moved with his family to Scranton, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1946. From February of 1951 to February of 1953, he served his country in the U.S. Army while stationed in West Germany. On March 20, 1955, he married Terry Lu Williams in Mason City. They farmed at Sheffield, Ogden, and Madrid before moving to Leland in 1967. Phillip continued to farm near Leland until he retired in 1993. In 1998, he and Terry moved into Forest City. Phillip enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling by train and always looking to make improvements whether on the farm or at home. He attended Pilot Knob Lutheran Church east of Forest City.

Phillip is survived by his wife of sixty-two years, Terry, of Forest City; three sons, John (Julie) Rasmussen, of Joice, Jim (Sharon) Rasmussen, of Ankeny, and Ken (Beth) Rasmussen, of Britt; ten grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, John Mehr; and two sisters-in-law, Eileen and Julie Rasmussen; as well as by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Eric, on August 10, 2013; his sisters, Janet and Carol; and his brothers, Calvin, David, Leo, and Paul.

Memorial services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, February 4, 2017, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City with Rev. Robert Snitzer officiating. The Forest City Veterans Ceremonial Unit will conduct a flag presentation ceremony. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Oakland Cemetery. A memorial visitation will take place from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Friday, February 3, 2917, at the First Baptist Church in Forest City. The Cataldo Schott Funeral Home is overseeing the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Meals on Wheels in Forest City where Phillip volunteered for eighteen years.
