Ruth M. Dirksen
December 26, 1939 - November 27, 2016Ruth Marie Dirksen, a daughter of George and Anna (Uken) Schreur, was born on December 26, 1939. She grew up on a farm by Kanawha, Iowa, and attended Kanawha High School, graduating in 1957. Then, she attended Waldorf College for one year before working as a teller at the Kanawha bank.
On August 4, 1961, she married Larry Dirksen at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church. The two, then, moved to Britt, and again after a few years, they moved to a farm near Woden. There, she helped on the farm and worked as a CNA at the Titonka Care Center.
Ruth enjoyed her role as a farmwife: gardening, working on the farm, baking, reading, and helping others. After she and Larry moved to Buffalo Center, she enjoyed riding her bike and visiting with friends. She, especially, liked spending time with Larry, her family, and her friends.
She is survived by her husband, Larry, of Buffalo Center; her children, David (Karen) Dirksen, of Woden, Susan (Bruce) Vriezen, of Marion, Mike (Michele) Dirksen, of Pleasantville; fifteen grandchildren; six great grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Char Schreur. Preceding her in death are her parents and her brother, Robert Schreur.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, December 2, 2016, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center.
