Arlene Lorraine Ingebritson
October 17, 1924 - October 08, 2016Arlene L. Ingebritson, 91, of Lake Mills, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, October 08, 2016, at the Lake Mills Care Center.
Arlene Lorraine Halvorson was born on October 17, 1924, at Fertile, Iowa, to Henry and Cora (Revland) Halvorson. She attended and graduated from Fertile High School before going on to attend first Waldorf College and then Mankato State University where she earned a teaching degree.
Arlene married Lloyd Milton Thorsheim. Blessed with two children: Kendra and Kevin, they couple made their home in Leland for many years. Lloyd passed away in 1991.
A beloved teacher in Forest City and Leland, Arlene possessed immeasurable musical talent. She played the trumpet, piano, and church organ. In addition, she devoted her time as choir director at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Leland and as organist at the United Methodist Church in Forest City. An artist, she enjoyed cooking and baking, loved reading and traveling, and truly cherished her dog, Tipper.
Later in life, Arlene married Palmer Ingebritson. They, subsequently, lived in Lake Mills where she became an active member of Salem Lutheran Church.
Arlene is survived by her two children, Kendra Berkeland, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, and Kevin (Maria) Thorsheim, of Forest City, Iowa; seven grandchildren, Tor (Katie) and Andy (Nicole) Berkeland, Maggie (John) O’Connell, David (Donna) Cardosa, Felipe (Teka) Gonzalez, Jenna (Heath) Waymire, and Kristofer Thorsheim; twelve great-grandchildren; a sister, Laurie Smit, of Sheffield, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Elaine Ingebritson, of Lake Mills; as well as by several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and a host of friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Lloyd, in 1991; her second husband, Palmer, in 2003; an infant son, Thomas; a son-in-law, Mark Berkeland; a sister and her husband, Dorothy and Lloyd Gudmonson; and a brother-in-law, Gene Smit.
A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM, Thursday, October 13, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, and again one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City, Iowa. The family suggests that memorials be made to the Humane Society of North Iowa, 2700 Birch Drive SE, Mason City, Iowa, 50401.
