Adeline Orvina Rolands
February 17, 1918 - September 02, 2016

Adeline O. Rolands, 98, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died peacefully in her sleep at the Lake Mills Care Center on Friday, September 2, 2016.

Adeline Orvina (Moen) Rolands was born on February 17, 1918, to Oscar and Clara (Groe) Moen at the home of her Grandpa and Grandma (Amund and Johanna) Groe in Silver Lake Township, Worth County, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Silver Lake Lutheran Church, she graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1935. She, then, attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls where she earned a teaching certificate. She began her career teaching grades 1 through 8 at Kensett Country School. In addition, she taught early elementary ages at Leland, Guttenberg, Clarion, and Lake Mills.

After dating “many fine fellows,” Addie returned to her home town in 1945 and married her high school classmate, Clayton Lawrence Rolands, on May 29, 1945. Subsequently blessed with three children: Jon, Georgene, and Lois, they lived on and farmed the Roland family’s Century Farm.

Always very involved in her community, Adeline participated at Salem Lutheran Church and in 4-H, the Literary Club, the Lake Mills Historical Society, Iowa Mothers, Farm Bureau Women, the Winnebago County Republicans, with whom she strongly supported Terry Branstad's career, the Hardanger Club, and the Birthday Club as well as in several bridge clubs.

Addie is survived by her daughters and their husbands: Georgene and Tom Westendorf, of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and Lois and Bill McGuire, of Rochester, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Linda Rolands, of Lake Mills; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Bausch, Michael (Melissa) Rolands, Shawna Negrete, Mark Rolands, Braden Westendorf, Lucas (Madison) Westendorf, Brynn (Joe) Daves, Mary (Carlos) Mejia, and Anne McGuire; eleven greatgrandchildren: Madelyn, Justin, and Austin Bausch; Jonathan Rolands; Kobe, Vada, Ava, and Ella Negrete; Everett Westendorf; Kellen Daves; and Carlos, Gabriel, and Camille Mejia; as well as by a host of extended relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Clayton, in 1982; her son, Jon, in 2009; two sisters, Julane Sydness Jellum and Eunice Skellenger, and her brothers-in-law, Ted Sydness, Sandy Jellum, and Lynn Skellenger.

Addie loved traveling, having visited many states and made two trips to Europe, playing cards and other games, reading, quilting, having coffee with friends, and doing Hardanger embroidery. Although proud of her Norwegian heritage and her community, she loved her family most of all.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday.
