December 16, 1926 - August 05, 2016Lovenea S. Groe, age 89, died on Friday, August 05, 2016, at her home in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Sylvia Lovenea (Lien) Groe was born to Hans and Anna (Dahle) Lien on December 16, 1926, in Cerro Gordo County, Iowa. She attended and then graduated from Joice High School. Next, she enrolled at Waldorf College in Forest City. On July 30, 1950, she married Lester Groe at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa. They made their home on a farm east of Lake Mills where Lovenea became a hard working farm wife and dedicated mother. A long-time employee of Farmers and Merchants State Bank in Lake Mills (now MBT), she kept active at Salem Lutheran Church as well.
Lovenea enjoyed knitting, embroidering, cooking, baking, and making lefse. She and Lester were able to take a trip together annually, and up until a few years ago, she was still able (and loved) to mow the lawn at the farm.
She will be missed by her son, Loren (Tania) Groe, of Lake Mills; five grandchildren, Michael, Joseph, Rachel, Alessandra, and Anthony; and two sisters, Enid (Arlen) Wogen, of Lincoln City, Oregon, and Arlene (Ray) Schlader, of Louisville, Kentucky; as well as by many nieces, nephews, extended relatives, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lester; her son, Harold; and a sister and brother-in-law Gwen (Curtis) Ouverson.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, August 13, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Joel L. Guttormson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Following the funeral, cremation will take place with inurnment at Salem Memorial Cemetery, rural Lake Mills.
