MASON CITY – Margie A. Fox Brandl, 91, of Mason City, died on Saturday, July 23, 2016, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Margie Ann Brandl, a daughter of Clyde and Jennie (Smith) Fox, was born on February 8, 1925, in Forest City. She attended Landru country school near her home and graduated from Forest City High School in 1943. In 1945, she married Floyd Sweet. To this union, three children were born, Stephen, Dean, and Jeanie. In 1957, she was married to Alton Brandl. To this union, a daughter, Susan, was born.

Margie worked in Omaha for a year as a waitress, at Bergo’s in Mason City for three years in the stock room, and at Damon’s in Mason City for fourteen years in the fabric department. In her younger years, she enjoyed horseback riding, roller skating, and dancing. In her later years, she liked traveling, going to casinos, watching horse races, baking, doing crafts, and quilting. Moreover, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren and hanging out with her Trio Quilt Girls, Judy, Bobbi, and Susan. Margie, also, enjoyed her neighborhood kids, young and old, for all of their help and visits. Her favorite color was blue and favorite singer was Elvis Presley.

Margie is survived by her three children, Dean (MiSu) Sweet, of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Jeanie (Larry) Peterson, of Garner, and Susan Brandl (Emmett Hart), also of Garner; six grandchildren, Amy Sweet Sorensen, Shane (Lisa) Peterson, Sarah (Dickie) Barkema, Chrystal Hubbard, Jessica Sweet, and John (Noelle) Ricke; nine great grandchildren, Brianna, Maggie, Ella, Greta, Jack, and Ruby Joy Peterson and Matt, Nick, and Emily Martinson; a brother, Billy Fox, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; and two sisters, Jennie Mae Nelson, of Mason City, and Helen Jean (Al) Dutemple, of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Alton; her son, Stephen Sweet; and three brothers, Kay, Earl “Toad,” and Chick Fox.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date in Oakland Cemetery, Forest City. There will be no visitation. The Cataldo Funeral Home in Garner is in charge of the arrangements.
