James Meinders
January 16, 1933 - June 8, 2016

James “Jim” Meinders, 83, of Buffalo Center, passed away on Wednesday afternoon, June 8th, 2016, at the Hospice of North Iowa Inpatient Unit, Mason City.

The youngest son of Henry and Nellie (Reikens) Meinders, Jim was born on January 16th, 1933, on the family farm in rural Buffalo Center. He graduated from Buffalo Center High School in 1950 and joined the Army in 1953. He enjoyed his eighteen months of service while stationed in Germany.

On May 29th, 1956, Jim married Maxine June Seltun at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Within five short years, their family of two had turned into a circus of six. Jim most enjoyed delivering Winnebagos with Maxine, a job which allowed them to travel to most of states in the U.S. A few of his favorite passions, also, included fishing trips to Canada, casino runs, early morning coffee with the guys, gardening, and scouring the internet for new recipes. In the last few months, he thoroughly enjoyed his nightly Skyping sessions with his children and grandchildren at 7:30.

Jim is survived by his three daughters and one son, Kathy (Gary) Fisk, of Milford, Iowa, Barb (Dennis) Rinnels, of Clear Lake, Iowa, Deb (Greg) Hanson, of Garner, Iowa, and Randy (Cindy) Meinders, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (Martin) and Tiffany (John); Ashley (Michael) and Alyssa; Angela and Kassidy; and Josh (Tessa), Chris, and Sam; and four great granddaughters Ella, Emery, Baylor, and Sophia; one brother, Wilb Meinders; and two sisters-in-law, Gertrude and Johanna Meinders; as well as by many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Maxine, on December 6, 1997; his parents; two brothers, Dick and Alvin; and two sisters, Marie Neuhring and Iola Steffenson.

A Celebration of Life will be held Friday from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at The Barn Gruis Recreational Center, rural Buffalo Center, with a time of sharing memories to begin at 6:30 PM. Graveside inurnment will follow Saturday at 11:00 AM at Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center, with military honors provided by the Buffalo Center American Legion.
