Surrounded by her loving family, Elaine Jean Hallstrom, 88, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, May 15, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City.

Elaine J. Hallstrom, a daughter of Albert and Mabel (Holstad) Limesand, was born on August 23, 1927, in Kiester, Minnesota. She attended Lake Mills Community School and graduated as valedictorian of her class. After working at the Cool Spring Canning Factory for four summers from 1943 to 1946, she taught at three rural schools between1945 and 1950.

On June 15, 1949, Elaine married Wallace Bergland. They lived on a farm southwest of Lake Mills where they raised their four children. In 1969, they moved to town because of Wallace’s failing health. He, subsequently, died on April 23, 1970.

On April 5, 1980, Elaine married Robert (Bob) Hallstrom. They lived in Lake Mills until Elaine retired in 1989 from her position as the elementary secretary at the Lake Mills Community School. Then, she and Bob moved to Idaho where they lived in several different communities.

Elaine’s hobbies included reading, walking, gardening, baking, and corresponding with family. Living a life of service to others by performing countless acts of kindness, she loved the Lord, allowing His light to shine through her. She constantly strove to help her family and friends to have a personal relationship with Jesus and live their lives for Him. Very involved in her church, she led numerous Bible study classes.

Elaine is survived by her four children, Wendy (Jim) Anderson, of Coon Rapids, Minnesota, Wes (Carol Anne) Bergland, of Lake Mills, Nancy (Steve) Olson, of Forest City, and Tom (Olga) Bergland, of Chula Vista, California; ten grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; four brothers, Don (Lucy) Limesand, of Danville, California, Milford (Linda) Limesand, of Tonganoxie, Kansas, Sanford Limesand, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Larry Limesand, of Lake Mills; four sisters-in-law, Ruth (Roger) Hermanson, of Lake Mills, Rachel (Don) Gillmann, of Lincoln City, Oregon, Darlene Limesand, of Albert Lea, Minnesota ,and Charlotte Limesand, of Victorville, California; and one brother-in-law, Marv Bjork, of Montgomery, Illinois; as well as by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Wallace and Bob; her parents-in-law, Walter and Evelyn Bergland; her sister, Mary Bjork; her brothers, Ray and Vernell Limesand; her sisters-in-law, Betty Tiedman, Linda Limesand, and Judy Limesand; and her brother-in-law, Don Tiedman.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the Word of Faith Dominion Church, 45005 210th Avenue, rural Lake Mills, with Pastor Doug Domokos officiating. Burial will be in Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Mills. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, from 4:00 to 6:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City, the Waldorf Lutheran College Foundation, also in Forest City, or the Word of Faith Dominion Church in Lake Mills.
