Darlene Madson, 78, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at home at Lazy Acre, Lake Mills, Iowa.

Darlene Lou Madson was born on November 7, 1937, at home in Worth County, Iowa, to Glenn and Evelyn (Hanson) Dahl. Baptized at Emmons Lutheran Church and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, she graduated form Lake Mills High School in 1955 and earned her R.N. degree from Lutheran Deaconess Hospital in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She, subsequently, practiced her nursing skills for over fifty years.

On March 22, 1959, Darlene married her high school sweetheart, Dennis Madson, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills. They had four kids: Brian, Leslie, Steven, and Heather. Brian married Christy and lives in Eddy, Texas. They have three sons and a daughter. Leslie married Dawn and lives in North Mankato, Minnesota. They have one daughter. Steven married Kerry and lives in Hampton, Iowa. They have three daughters and a son. Heather and her partner, Amber, reside in Denver, Colorado. Darlene’s grandchildren include Laura, Emily, Callie, Jessie, Christina, Kelsey, Joseph, Mykala, Olivia, Trevor, and Lastin. Her great grandchildren include Quinn and Jaxon.

Darlene is also survived by her siblings, Dorothy (James) Gesme, of Hayfield, Minnesota, Gary (Debbie) Dahl, of Granville, Illinois, Carol (Jerry) Christenson, of Chandler, Arizona, and George Dahl, of San Antonio, Texas.

An active member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Darlene loved her church and served in many capacities both in her church and her community. She had a passion for Denny, her Bible, her grandchildren, great grandchildren, kids, friends, gardening, and baking.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Evelyn; a granddaughter, Hillary; an infant sister, Loretta; a sister and brother-in-law, Deloris (Richard) Hanna, and two nieces, Barbara and Theresa.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, May 2, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastors Melinda McCluskey and Joel L. Guttormson officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Inurnment will follow at a later date. Darlene’s family suggest memorials be directed to Salem Quilters, 401 S Lake Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450.
