Marlas DeLight Reimann died peacefully on Wednesday, March 30, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Society in Forest City, Iowa, at the age of 84.

Marlas was born on October 29, 1931, to Hiram O. and Annie R. (Norstrud) Peterson in rural Leland. Baptized and confirmed at the West Prairie Lutheran Church, she graduated from Forest City High School. Then, she attended Waldorf College and North Iowa Area Community College before finally completing her teaching degree at Mankato State University. During her career, she taught at the Fisher school in rural Leland, the Leland school, and lastly at the Forest City Elementary School.

Marlas married her high school sweet-heart, Gordon Reimann, on June 14, 1953, in a double wedding ceremony with her sister Clarine Peterson and Wayne Ambroson. Theirs was the only double wedding ceremony in West Prairie history.

Gordon and Marlas have four sons: Kent, Jan, Tracy, and Steven. Kent and his wife, Lori, who reside in McCallsburg, Iowa, have three sons and four grandchildren. Jan and his wife, Julie, who live in Leland, Iowa, have two sons, three daughters, and two grandchildren. Tracy and his wife, Barb, who reside in Hamburg, Minnesota, have one son. Steven and his wife, Colette, who live in Thompson, Iowa, have three children and five grandchildren.

An active member of West Prairie Lutheran Church, Marlas participated in the Ladies Choir, taught Sunday school, and belonged to Sarah’s circle. In addition, she had a passion for gardening. She took great pride in her flowers, especially in her roses. She could never wait for winter to end so she could get outside to tend to her garden.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Reimann; her parents, Hiram and Annie Peterson; two older brothers, Calmar and Herman; and a sister, Clarine Ambroson. She is survived by her four sons, twelve grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren; her sister, Betty Haugen, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; and her brother, Allen (Jean) Peterson, of Leland, Iowa, as well as by many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM, Monday, April 4, 2016, at the West Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Leland, Iowa, with Pastor Steven Bang officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Sunday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450.
