Karen Faye Johnson
February 10, 1937 - March 14, 2016

BUFFALO CENTER — Karen Faye Johnson went to join her Lord and Savior on March 14, 2016, at the age of 79 years, 1 month and 4 days.

Karen was born in Forest City to Oliver and Nettie (Westerberg) Tweeten. After graduating from Forest City High School, she went on to earn a teaching certificate from the University of Northern Iowa. Afterwards, while putting the love of her life through dental school, she taught sixth grade at Norway and Oxford.

On June 20, 1958, Karen married Dr. Donald G. Johnson. To their union, two sons, Steven and Markley Johnson, were born. They became the pride and joy of her life.

An active and exemplary example of a Christian, Karen, at a young age, accepted Jesus as her personal Savior and was baptized to show her identity in him. During her lifetime, she held many offices in her church.

Karen liked painting and handwork, Hardanger embroidery, friends and family. She, also, enjoyed traveling with her family to many parts of the world. She, always, had a smile on her face and maintained a positive outlook. Even towards the end of her life, she would still say “I’m doing OK.”

She is survived by Don, her husband of fifty-seven years; two sons, Dr. Steven H., and his wife, Michelle Johnson, and Markley G. Johnson; her grandchildren, Zachariah, Abigail, and Nichole; two sisters, Audrey (Dr. Lowell) Bond and Florene Trentman; and two sisters-in-law, Carol and Luetta Tweeten; as well as by many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Roger and Wallace Tweeten; her brother-in-law, Dr. John Trentman, and infant grandson, Maxwell.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 22, 2016, at Community Chapel, Lakota, with Pastor Kent Hillesland officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., Monday, March 21, 2016, at the church and again, one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment will follow in the Olena Mound Cemetery, Buffalo Center.
