Norbert Francis Machacek
September 21, 1935 - February 9, 2016Norbert Francis Machacek, 80, of Forest City, died on Tuesday, February 9, 2016, in Florida.
Norbert Francis Machacek, a son of Frank and Josephine (Pumper) Machacek, was born on September 21, 1935, in Lonsdale, Minnesota. In his youth, he attended Immaculate Conception Catholic School in Lonsdale, Minnesota, and Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, Minnesota. Later, he earned an electrical degree and obtained his license. He served in the United States Army Reserves.
On May 2, 1959, Norbert married Ann Voracek in Lonsdale, Minnesota. They moved to St Peter, Minnesota, where he found work at the ACE Hardware Store as an electrician. Afterwards, they moved to Forest City, Iowa, where he worked for Winnebago Industries until he chose to start his own electrical business. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church in Forest City.
Norbert enjoyed LIFE. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren, so much so that he even took a chance on the trampoline. He enjoyed playing numerous card games with family and friends. He, also, did not miss many “daily” card games with his wife. He loved watching sports and the news. Often, he enjoyed research on his computer. He was never afraid of a “little” discussion. In his later days, he liked working in his shed on many beautiful woodcraft projects, always wanting to try something new. Many a day, he would be working outside splitting wood, “good” exercise he would say.
Those surviving him include, Ann, his wife of fifty-six years; his three children, Diane (Kent) Eymann, of Rockton, Illinois, Dwayne (Dianne) Machacek, of Lakeside, Texas, and Doug (Tracy) Machacek, of Waconia, Minnesota; four grandchildren, Stephanie and Andrew Eymann and Alicia and Reagan Machacek; two sisters, Agnes Kratochvil and Bernice Zelenka; and his brother-in-law, Blaisé Bisek, of New Prague, Minnesota; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, February 16, 2016, at St. James Catholic Church in Forest City with Fr. Jim Dubert officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M., Monday, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 N. Clark St., Forest City, with a Scriptural Wake Service at 3:30 P.M.
