March 27, 1932 - February 13, 2016U.S. Veteran Mylan Dwain Johnson, 83, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Saturday, February 13, 2016, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Mylan Dwain Johnson, a son of George J. and Mabel Irene (Gilbertson) Johnson, was born on March 27, 1932, in Lake Mills, Iowa. Baptized at Zumbrota Lutheran Church in Rochester, Minnesota, and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, he attended Country School at Norway #6 Midlang and graduated from Lake Mills High School in 1950.
From 1953 to 1955 while based in Anchorage, Alaska, Mylan served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict.
On November 11, 1956, he married Lois Knudtson at Winnebago Lutheran Church. Together, they operated a dairy farm and raised two children, Daniel and Denise. They were also honored to serve as God Parents for ten other children.
Mylan loved his family, farming, and caring for his animals. He enjoyed reading, both square and ballroom dancing, and drinking coffee with his friends.
An active member of his church, Mylan served for thirty-three years on the Lake Mills Coop Creamery Board in addition to the Farmers Coop Elevator Board and the Winnebago County Farm Bureau Board. A former Winnebago County Republican Chair and Norway Township Clerk, he, also, served with the Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post #235 Honor Guard.
Mylan is survived by his loving wife, Lois, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his son, Daniel (Tamera) Johnson, of Coldwater, Michigan; his daughter, Denise (Gorden, Jr.) Anderson, of Leland, Iowa; his grandsons, Nathan and Spencer Johnson and Alec Anderson; his sister, LaBonnie (Dennis) Thoen, of Salt Lake City, Utah; his brother-in-law, Ronald (Karen) Knudtson, of Mason City, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Mary Jane (Ronald) Redenius, of Forest City, Iowa; along with several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lowell Johnson.
Funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, February 17, 2016, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM, Tuesday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Military honors will be provided by Lake Mills Otto/Chose American Legion Post #235. Burial will take place at Salem Lutheran Cemetery, Lake Mills, Iowa.
Mylan’s family suggests that memorials be given to Alzheimer’s Disease Research, Mayo Clinic-Department of Development, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, Minnesota 55905.
