C. Elaine Gapp, age 91, died peacefully on Friday, January 22, 2016, at the Good Samaritan Center in Forest City and is now rejoicing in heaven in the presence of her Lord and Savior.

Elaine Gapp, a daughter of Charles and Cleva (Koon) Rathjen, was born on December 12, 1924, in Janesville, Wisconsin. She had many interests in her life including her love of music. Indeed, she majored in music at St. Paul Bible College. An accomplished pianist and organist, she, also, excelled at playing the vibraharp. Moreover, she used her musical talent to teach and serve others. Elaine loved God, the Bible, and Church, having made her faith a vital part of her life.

Elaine and her husband, Eugene, pastored churches in many locations including Burns, Minnesota, Wild Rose, North Dakota, Savage, Montana, Aberdeen, South Dakota, St. James, Minnesota, Spirit Lake, Iowa, and finally Spring Grove, Minnesota. She loved her family and friends and enjoyed taking vacations and trips to see them. After Eugene passed away (1983), Elaine eventually settled in Forest City, Iowa, where she attended the First Baptist Church for many years.

The devoted wife of Eugene Gapp for thirty-six years, Elaine met him during college. They married on June 23, 1947. A loving mother, she bore and raised four children: Gary (Hope) Gapp, of Richmond, Kentucky, the late Jay (Joani) Gapp, of Crown Point, Indiana, Larry (Pam) Gapp, of Forest City, Iowa, and Tim (Renee) Gapp, of Arlington, Illinois. She is a cherished grandmother to Molly (Dave) Dulmage; Amos, David, Jacob, Jed, Jeremy, (DeAnna), the late Joshua (Amber), Justin (Tiffany), and Lydia Gapp; Katy (Charlie) Maher; and Ivy (Jonathan) Planck. Elaine also leaves behind seven great-grandchildren: Abigail, Annabelle, Daniel, Elijah, Isaac, and Owen Gapp; and Francis Maher as well as many nieces and nephews.

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Eugene Gapp; her son, Jay Gapp; her grandson, Joshua Gapp; her brothers, Eldon and David; and her sisters, Evelyn and Lois.

Funeral and Celebration of Elaine’s life will be held at 10:30 A.M., Saturday, January 30, 2016, at the First Baptist Church, 18508 E Hwy 9, Forest City, Iowa, with Pastors Eric Weaver and Matt Rittgers officiating. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M., Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Cataldo Schott Funeral Chapel, 505 North Clark St., Forest City. Interment will follow at Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Spring Grove, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Good Samaritan Society, the First Baptist Church, and Hospice of North Iowa.
