Janice M. Badje
April 21, 1936 - January 29, 2016

Janice Marie Badje, 79, a longtime resident of this area, left us here on earth to join Lawrence in heaven on Friday, January 29, 2016, at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.

She was born on April 21, 1936, in Elmore, Minnesota, to Alice and George Thovson. After earning her high school diploma in 1954, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Elmore elevator. As the second of four children, she had to work hard since her mother was widowed when Janice was sixteen years old. Before graduating, she met Lawrence Badje at the local skating rink. After going off to the service, he began writing as series of letters to her that, eventually, led to their marriage on February 18, 1956.

Janice loved living on the farm, raising her chickens, ducks, bunnies, and pets. She had an amazing green thumb with her flower and vegetable gardens as well as with her house plants. An excellent cook, she shared her home cooked meals and baked goods with almost everyone in the area. In addition, she, also, did seasonal work as a corn cutter for Green Giant in Blue Earth Minnesota.

Highly regarded in the community through her work at Zion Lutheran Church and the Rake Auxiliary, Janice, most, enjoyed writing letters and sending cards along with visiting the sick, grieving, and lonely.

Revered by her family, Janice will always be remembered lovingly by her son, Jim, and his wife, Kandy; her daughter, Lyn Gerdis, and her husband, Michael; her grandchildren, Stetson, Alyssa, Jaden, and Abby; her brother, Erv Thovson, and his wife, Mary; her sister, Sharon Herfendal, and her husband, Marlin; her sisters-in-law: Bertha Irons, Gail Thovson Fransen, and Arelly Badje; and her brothers-in-law, Carl and Joseph and his wife, Mary. She is preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence, and her brother, Duane Thovson.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday June 12, 2016, when the flowers are in full bloom and the family can share the extensive collection of pictures, newspaper clippings, and memorabilia she collected throughout her adult life. More details will follow closer to the date.

In lieu of flowers at this time, family prefer donations be given to Zion Lutheran Church, the Rake Auxiliary, or a charity of the donor’s choice in memory of Janice.
