Janelle Ann Colleran
September 27, 1932 - December 23, 2015

Janelle Ann Colleran, 83, of Caledonia, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on December 23rd, 2015. She was born on September 27, 1932, in Mason City, Iowa, to Stella (Neste) and Paul Thompson.

Janelle attended Forest City, Iowa, High School and recently her 60th class reunion. After her father purchased the Gamble Hardware Store, the family moved from Forest City to Caledonia. There, Janelle met the love of her life, Bob Colleran, and they married on November 17th, 1951, at St John the Baptist Church.

Mainly a homemaker, Janelle, also, worked at the Caledonia Hospital and the Country Rose, and she volunteered at Hospice for over eighteen years. Moreover, she taught religion classes for many years and was a member of Catholic Daughters and CCW. Her faith and her Prayer Group kept her strong. In addition, she and her various cohorts, usually Gretchen and Rosie, frequently impersonated scarecrows or other living mannequins at local events. Proud of her Irish and Norwegian heritage, she enjoyed flowers, traveling, playing cards, and doing anything that made people laugh. She loved traveling to her hometown, Forest City, Iowa, which her great grandfather, Robert Clark, had founded. She enjoyed exploring the family history. Our “Sunshine,” she treasured her friends and family.

She will be deeply missed by her six children: Marcella “Sally” and Mark Harren, of Rice, Minnesota, and their children, Stephanie (Jake) Andrews and Ryan (Heather) Harren; Robert “Bob” Colleran, Jr., of Green Bay, Wisconsin; Timothy and Cindy Colleran, of Caledonia, Minnesota, and their children, Christopher (Morgan), Sarah, and Samantha Colleran; Cindy and Duane Olson, of Caledonia, Minnesota, and their children, Joe and Jessica Olson; Mary Jo Evans, of Taylors Falls, Minnesota, and her children, Aaron (Hiddie), Adam, Alex, and Angela Lanik; Michael and Fernanda Colleran, of Caledonia, Minnesota, and their children, Bia and Michael Colleran; eight great grandchildren with one more on the way; her brothers and sisters-in-law, Don and Carol Thompson, of Arvada, Colorado, and Tommy and Sandy Thompson, Greensboro, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Colleran; her parents, Paul and Stella Thompson; her in-laws Joseph and Agnes Colleran; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Carol (Don) Butz and Gayle (Richard) Staats; her brother, Robert; her brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Mary Colleran; her sister- and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Earl Lord.

Visitation will be held Sunday, December 27, 2015, at 4:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Holy Family Hall, Caledonia, with a recitation of the Rosary at 3:30 p.m. and a prayer service to follow. A Funeral Mass will be offered Monday, December 28, 2015, at 10:30 a.m. with a visitation one hour prior to Mass at St. Mary’s Church, Father Fasnacht officiating with burial to follow in Calvary Cemetery, Caledonia. The McCormick Funeral Home is assisting the family.
