Daniel Allen Swanson
June 10, 1962 - November 25, 2015Daniel Allen Swanson, age 53, of rural Northwood, died on Wednesday, November 25, 2015, at his home.
Daniel Swanson was born on June 10, 1962, in Albert Lea, Minnesota, to David Allen and Olive Joan (Overland) Swanson. He attended and graduated from Emmons High School in 1981.
On November 21, 1981, Dan married Kimberly Thompson at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church. In their early years together, they made their home in Lake Mills, had a daughter and a son, and then moved to their current acreage near Silver Lake in 1987.
Dan was employed at Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills. He enjoyed tinkering, socializing, and working on Harleys, Chevys, and old tractors. He, always, had more than one “project” he was working on in his shop. Dan loved playing the jokester with his family and friends; he always had a great sense of humor.
His grandchildren will remember time spent with Grandpa in the shop, riding the golf cart in the woods on the acreage, playing chess and checkers, and always being welcome to spend the night.
Dan is survived by his wife, Kim, of Northwood, Iowa; his daughter, Brooke Swanson, and her children, Caleb, Tasha, and Jaden, all of Lake Mills, Iowa; his son, Derek (Jamie) Swanson, and their son, Daven, of Joice, Iowa; his parents, Olive (Vernon) Schroeder, of Hayward, Minnesota, and David (Joyce) Swanson, of Glenville, Minnesota; and two sisters, Kathy (Dan) Bakken, of Glenville, Minnesota, and Connie (Howard) Honsey, of Emmons, Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Beulah Thompson, of Northwood, Iowa; his sister-in-law, Angie (Steve) Hannegrefs, of Manchester, Minnesota; his brothers-in-law, Scott Thompson and Jason (Laura) Thompson, both of Northwood, Iowa; as well as by many nieces, nephews, other relatives and a lot of great friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Gilbert and Eva Overland and Earl and Thelma Swanson; and his father-in-law, Si Thompson.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, rural Northwood, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Inurnment will follow in the Silver Lake Lutheran Church Cemetery. A memorial visitation will be on Sunday, November 29, 2015, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street in Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday.
