Jewella Veronica Deffebach, age 77, died on Sunday, November 1, 2015, at her home in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Jewella was born on March 2, 1938, in Raton, New Mexico, to Greg and Lucy (Ortiz) Rubio. As a young child, she moved with her family to California where she lived in the San Francisco Bay Area for over forty years. In 1997, she moved to Lake Mills, Iowa.

After graduating from El Cerrito High School in 1956, Jewella married Charles Deffebach, the light of her life, on February 02, 1957. Subsequently, they had three children that they raised with lots of love.

Jewella had a zest for life. She surfed, water-skied, camped, and traveled. She spent a lifetime surrounding herself with friends and beautiful objects, cherishing her family and friends, and entertaining them all. Her generosity knew no bounds. A foodie decades before that term was even created, she shared her skill with all that knew her.

She was carried to Heaven on November 01, 2015, leaving behind a beautiful legacy never to be forgotten. She is survived by her husband, Charles (Chuck); her sons, Mike and John (Alicia) Deffebach; her daughter, Kari (Craig) Shifflett; her eight grandchildren: Lillian, Megan, Miranda, Mitchell, and Tyler Dahlberg; McKinley and Madison Shifflett; and Jordan (Steve) Tibbles; four great-grandchildren; her brothers, LaVern, David, and Tim; and her sister-in-law, Ardis, as well as by many, many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Dennis; her sister-in-law, Jayne; and her grandson, Matthew. Condolences may be sent to the family at 405 S. Lincoln St., Lake Mills, Iowa 50450.

Per her wishes, she was cremated, and no formal services will be held. The Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, is assisting her family with the arrangements.
