(October 19, 1927 - September 2, 2015)Beverly J. Smithe, 87 of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2015, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Beverly Juanita Smithe, a daughter of Melville and Inez (Tvedt) Tweed, was born on October 19, 1927, near Leland, Iowa.
After graduating from high school, Bev went to cosmetology school in Des Moines, Iowa. There, she met Jack Glenn Smithe, who he was working as an Army recruiter. On January 8, 1956, she married him at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Bev worked as a quality control inspector at Fleetguard Industries in Lake Mills for twenty-two years.
A very kind hearted person always mindful of everyone around her, Bev never wanted to be a bother to anyone. She showed her love for her family in many ways. She made sure every one of them had a hardanger piece that she had made. She would spend weeks preparing for her family’s arrival by making many of her special recipes for macaroni salad, taco salad, or her layered strawberry desert. Everything she made tasted good!
She was very active in the Salem Lutheran Church, the Altar Guild, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
She is survived by her two children, Dennis (Cindy Bancroft) Smithe, of Waverly, Iowa, and Christi Thompson, of Hanlontown, Iowa; five grandchildren, Amanda (Bob) Lauritson; Jordan and Matthew Bancroft-Smithe; and Angela and Jason Thompson; her great-granddaughter, Charlotte Lauritson; and her sister-in-law, Carmen Tweed, of Lake Mills, Iowa; along with nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Jack, and her brothers, Lewellyn and Arlen.
Memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, September 19, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Her family will greet friends and relatives at the church one hour prior to the service. Inurnment will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, Iowa. The family suggests that memorials be directed to the Salem Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
