Eugene “Gene” Nicholson
June 11, 1914 - March 17, 2008

Eugene “Gene” Nicholson, 93, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, formerly of Iowa, died on Monday, March 17, 2008, at his residence.

The only child of the late Mary Cross Nicholson and Fred Nicholson, Mr. Nicholson was born on June 11, 1914, in Little Cedar, Iowa. He graduated from Little Cedar High School. A veteran of the United States Army, Mr. Nicholson served during World War II in General Patton’s 3rd Army as a motor pool mechanic.

He was employed as an auto mechanic, an appliance repairman, and a foreman designing lampshades and in later years as a custodian.

For ninety-one years, he lived in the state of Iowa, Forest City, Clear Lake, Clarion, and Grinnell, before moving to Wake Forest, North Carolina, in 2005. He was a much loved and well respected member of Christ Our Hope PCA Church in Wake Forest.

His first wife, Rachel Gambell, preceded him in death in 1968. In 1972, he married Doris Spitler Floy.

Mr. Nicholson is survived by his wife of thirty-five years, Doris Nicholson; his sons, Gary Nicholson, of Buckeye, Arizona, and Greg Nicholson, of Columbus, Ohio; two daughters, Gail Wallace, of La Vergne, Tennessee, and Gloria Miner, and her husband, Ken, of Grinnell, Iowa; two step-daughters, Liana Anderson, and her husband, C. Michael, of Wake Forest, North Carolina, and Mary Locke, and her husband, Rodney, of Glenwood, Iowa; seven grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and seven step-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, a great granddaughter, a step-grandson, two step-great grandsons, and his first wife.

A memorial; service was held at 10:00 AM Friday March 21, 2008 at Christ Our Hope Presbyterian Church, 203 Capcom Avenue #107, Wake Forest, North Carolina, with Rev. Scott Cook and Rev. Chris Bower officiating. Memorial contributions may be given to Christ Our Hope Presbyterian Church in America, 203 Capcom Avenue, #107, Wake Forest, North Carolina 27587.
