Nyleene M. Knapp
(October 2, 1928 - July 21, 2015)

Nyleene M. Knapp, age 86, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Tuesday, July 21, 2015, at the Lake Mills Care Center.

Nyleene M. (Bebee) Knapp, a daughter of Nelson W. and Pearl I. (Hoover) Bebee, was born on October 2, 1928, in Robins, Iowa. She graduated from Marion High School, attended the University of Northern Iowa, and earned a nursing degree from North Iowa Area Community College (NIACC).

On November 12, 1950, she married Perry Knapp in Robins, Iowa. Subsequently, they were blessed with four children.

Making their home at first in Marion, Iowa, Perry worked as a supervisor for a 2700 acre dairy farm before a disastrous fire in 1964. The family, then, moved to Manly, Iowa, where they lived for the next ten years, and Perry managed another dairy farm. Finally, they came to Lake Mills in 1974 where they became long-time administrators for the Winnebago County Home.

Not one to let the grass grow under her feet, Nyleene became active in many groups and organizations throughout her lifetime. She helped form the Iowa Jersey Cattle Club Auxiliary, serving as president and 4-H leader in Worth County. In addition, she wrote a newspaper column, “Aunt Mat Chats,” for the local newspapers in Northwood, Manly, and Osage, helped with reading in Mr. Dugger’s 5th grade classroom, volunteered with the RSVP program, served the Asbury United Methodist Church as parish nurse and taught adult Sunday school, assisted in developing the Ask-A-Nurse line, and was one of the first hospice nurses in Mason City in the 1980s.

She will, also, be remembered for her wonderful baking, and warm hospitality.

Nyleene is survived by her sons, Kevin (Cindy), of Bumpass, Virginia, Dr. Keiren (Jane), of Seven Valleys, Pennsylvania, Kurt (Karen), of Forest City, Iowa, and Kehan (Heather), of Spring Valley, Minnesota; five grandchildren; and a brother, Dale Bebee, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri; as well as by many nieces, nephews; and a special family friend, James Kinkead, of Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Perry; and three brothers, Raymond, Robert, and Melvin Bebee.

Nyleene’s asked to be cremated, and her family will have a memorial service at a later date.
