Jerry L. Vega
December 6, 1953 - May 12, 2015

Jerry L. Vega, 61, of Forest City, died peacefully Tuesday, May 12, 2015, from pancreatic cancer at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City.

Jerry was born on December 6, 1953, to Jess (Chuck) and Gladys (Lewis) Vega. He grew up in Clear Lake, Iowa, where he graduated from high school in 1972. He married his present wife, Starla Vega, in 2006.

A very kind, friendly, outgoing, and caring person, he would lend a hand to anybody that needed help. Moreover, he could carry on a conversation with others as if he had known them for years. Taking a great deal of pride in his job working for the City of Forest City’s Street and the Recreation Departments, he enjoyed making the town look beautiful. Regrettably, after twenty-seven years on the job, he was forced to retire in 2010 because of a cardiac arrest.

Jerry loved traveling and took many trips around the U.S. with his wife, Starla Vega, and his step-son, Brock Kielty. Jerry and Starla enjoyed going on day trips through the TSB bank. He, also, looked forward to his Friday nights when he and his family would go out to eat and try different types of food in the area.

An active member of the Boy Scouts until his cardiac arrest, Jerry held several positions over the years including that of District Committee Member, Assistant District Commissioner, District Member-at-Large, Unit Commissioner, District Advancement Committee Chair, Committee Chairman Pack 4098, Chartered Organization Representative Pack 4098, Executive Officer Pack 4098, and Institutional Head Pack 4098 Lakeland.

Those left to cherish his memory include his two children, Megan (Gilbert) Sambalyegula, and his grandchildren, Danessa, Imani, and Keanyon, of Clear Lake, Iowa, and Chad (Lorie) Vega, of Napa, Idaho, and his grandchildren, Melissa Bate and Nathan Eveland, and his great grandchildren, Brayden and Emmalynn Bate and Jordan Eveland; three step-children, Alohna Ammons, of Leland, Iowa, Brock Kielty, of Forest City, Iowa, and Brandan (Emily) Kielty, and a grandchild, Konner Kielty, of Clear Lake, Iowa; his brother, Charles (Chuck), and his wife, Joan Vega, of South Dakota; his sister, Sue and her husband, Gerald (Rob) Roben, of Dubuque Iowa; his uncles, Peter (Pete) Vega, of Mason City, Iowa, and Ronald (Rulie), and his wife, Gina Vega, of Los Angles, California; his aunts, Sister Lucy Vega, of Huntingtown, Indiana, and Ella Abrahamson, of Glendale, California; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and his buddy, an English Bulldog named Big Mac.

He will be reunited in heaven with his father, Jess (Chuck) Vega; his mother, Gladys Vega; and his daughter, Mollie Jo Vega; along with uncles, aunts, a nephew, and cousins. The family would like to thank those at Hospice of North Iowa for all the loving and compassionate care they have shown to Jerry and his family.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 4:00 P.M., Friday, May 15, 2015, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City with Pastor Jim Mantel officiating. Per his wishes, his remains were cremated and there will be no visitation. A private inurnment will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Jerry Vega memorial fund in care of the family.
