James Peter Faugstad
(January 31, 1956 - May 13, 2015)

James Peter Faugstad, 59, of rural Emmons, Minnesota, died at home surrounded by his loving family on May 13, 2015. He is now rejoicing in the presence of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

A son of Nels D. and Camilla M. (Petersen) Faugstad, Jim was born on January 31, 1956, at Naeve Hospital in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Baptized and confirmed at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, he remained a life-long member, serving over the years as a School Board member, congregational Vice Chairman, Trustee, and Elder.

He attended Scarville Lutheran School through the eighth grade and graduated from Kiester High School in 1974. While attending Bethany Lutheran College, he met his wife, Emily (Trier). They married on April 16, 1977, in Mankato, Minnesota, and were, subsequently, blessed with six children.

After graduating from college in 1976, Jim returned to his family farm in Mansfield Township. He worked on the farm full-time until he was diagnosed with Multiple Myeloma, a cancer, in 2004. He, also, worked at Alamco Wood Products in Albert Lea, Minnesota, from 2001 to 2014. Although he had to endure a great deal of pain during his many years with cancer, he handled it with grace, humor, and an optimism that comes from a strong faith in God. He had a kind and giving heart, a quick wit, and boundless energy.

Jim is survived by his wife, Emily, and six children: Maria (Glenn) Smith, of Klamath Falls, Oregon, Laura (Eric) Harstad, of Hanska, Minnesota, Peter (Kristin) Faugstad, of Tacoma, Washington, Benjamin (Ashley) Faugstad, of Emmons, Minnesota, Kristin Capp, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, and Joel Faugstad, of Emmons, Minnesota; his grandchildren: Gabriel, Philip, Micah, Isaac, Grace, Marit, Greta, James, Nels, Noelle, Julia, Gideon, and Caden; his siblings: Mary (Alan) Ross, Becky (Don) Luckstein, Daniel (Julie) Faugstad, Kris (Steve) Maher, and Paul Faugstad; and his in-laws: Charles (Katrin) Trier, Clarice (Douglas) Guelker, Robert (Patty) Trier, Norman (Sharon) Trier, and many more relatives.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Nels and Camilla Faugstad; his father- and mother-in-law, Herbert and Lavine Trier; an infant brother, David Faugstad; a grandson, Matthew Smith; a nephew, James Luckstein; and a sister-in-law, Annette Trier.

He will be greatly missed, and we look forward to seeing him again in heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, May 20, 2015, at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church with Pastor Thomas Rank officiating. Visitation will be between 4:00 and 7:00 PM, Tuesday, May 19, 2015, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will take place at the Scarville Synod Lutheran Church cemetery following the service.
