(October 12, 1928 - April 24, 2015)Surrounded by her family, Audrey Elaine Haugsdal, 86, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Friday, April 24, 2015, at her home in Lake Mills, Iowa.
Audrey Elaine Larson Haugsdal was born at home at Sharp’s Corner, Mansfield Township, on October 12, 1928, to Hannah Elvira and Melvin James Larson. Baptized and confirmed in the country Swede Church, she attended school in Kiester, Minnesota, graduating with the class of 1946. While cheerleading at an Emmons vs. Kiester High School football game, she met Ray Haugsdal who became the love of her life.
Audrey and Ray married on her nineteenth birthday, October 12, 1947, on the Larson family farm at Sharp’s Corner. They made their home at the Haugsdal farm south of Emmons, Minnesota, where they raised five children: Teresa, Susan, Bruce, Kathleen, and Craig. A devoted wife, mother and homemaker, Audrey enjoyed sewing, cooking, baking, gardening, and canning her harvest. But most of all, she loved her family. Her children are forever grateful for her unconditional love, nurturing and giving spirit, and her strong faith.
An active member of Emmons Lutheran Church, Audrey served on many boards and committees including as chairman of the Lutefisk Supper. She and Ray enjoyed traveling and took many memorable trips. Indeed, the travel bug took them to California, Hawaii, Arizona, Oregon, Alaska, Sweden, Denmark, and Norway.
Audrey is survived by her children: Teresa Brua and Sally Schroeder, of Lebanon, Oregon, Bruce (Maureen) Haugsdal, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Kathleen (Larry) Vold, of Joice, Iowa, and Craig (Cindy) Haugsdal, of Northwood, Iowa; her grandchildren: Cory (Brenda) Brua, of Lake Mills, Iowa, Nicole (Russ) Behrens, of Grinnell, Iowa, Sara (Lance) Fredericksen, of Wallingford, Iowa, Amy (Scott) Boettcher, of Stewartville, Minnesota, Ryan (Renee) Haugsdal, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Anna (Jason) Calcote, of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Peter Vold, of Oregon, Wisconsin, Michael (Jaclyn) Haugsdal, of Coralville, Iowa, and Kari (Jerod) Osheim, of Northwood, Iowa; her great grandchildren: Claire and Hannah Behrens; Blake, Bo, and Cole Boettcher; Danielle and Hayden Brua; Weston Calcote; Lydia and Madigan Fredericksen; and Addyson, Audrey, Garrett, Grant, and Isabel Haugsdal.
Audrey was preceded in death by her husband, Ray; her daughter, Susan Rae Haugsdal; her parents, Vera and Melvin Larson; her sisters, Marian Bowater and Nona Koch; and a granddaughter, Dana Patrice Haugsdal.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM, Monday, April 27, 2015, at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota, with Rev. Christopher W. Martin officiating. Visitation will be between 4:00 and 7:00 PM, Sunday afternoon, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa 50450 and again one hour prior to the service at the church. After the funeral service, her remains will be cremated and inurnment will take place at a later date in Oak Lawn Cemetery, Emmons, Minnesota.
