(June 10, 1923 - April 1, 2015)

Alfreda Genevieve Anderson Brua, age 91, passed away on April 1, 2015, surrounded by the love of her family at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Alfreda Genevieve Anderson was born at home on June 10, 1923, in Newton Township, Winnebago County, to Albert W. and Mattie (Everson) Anderson. She had one sister, Alfreida who died as a child and one brother Wilfer Anderson.

Baptized and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Alfreda attended schools in rural Winnebago County and at Leland, Iowa. In 1941, she graduated from Lake Mills High School.

Alfreda married Ardell Brua on March 14, 1943, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. They, subsequently, had one son, Vaughn Dudley. The family farmed two miles southeast of Emmons for approximately fifty years before moving into Lake Mills in 1998. In March of 2015, they celebrated their seventy-second 72 wedding anniversary.

Before her marriage, Alfreda worked at the Winnebago County Courthouse in Forest City. Later, she worked for Attorney Eugene Sarno in Lake Mills and then for Farmers and Merchants State Bank (now Manufacturers Bank) also in Lake Mills for another nineteen years.

Alfreda had a passion for travel, and she and Ardell had wonderful memories of trips taken all over the world. They also enjoyed dancing at the Surf and spending time with family, friends, and at church.

Alfreda is survived by her husband, Ardell, of Lake Mills; her son, Vaughn; a grandson, Cory Brua, and his wife, Brenda, of Lake Mills, and their children Cole, Danielle, and Hayden; her granddaughter, Nikki Brua-Behrens, and her husband, Russ, of Grinnell, Iowa, and their daughters, Hannah and Claire; and her granddaughter, Sara Fredericksen, and her husband, Lance, of Wallingford, Iowa, and their daughters, Madigan and Lydia; as well by several beloved nieces.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, William and Alberta (Loberg) Anderson, and Ole and Ana (Sandvick) Everson; her parents, Albert and Mattie Anderson; a brother, Wilfer, Blanche and Lois Anderson; a sister, Alfreida; and her sisters and brothers-in-law, Dorothy and Gene Moen and Eldo and Geraldine Brua.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Pastors Melinda McCluskey and Clarence Baalson officiating. Inurnment will take place in Salem Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
