Kathleen Gail Pederson
(November 22, 1945 - March 17, 2015)Kathleen Pederson, age 69, of Dumont, formerly of Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, died on Tuesday, March 17, 2015, at the Dumont Wellness Center.
Kathleen Gail Pederson was born on November 22, 1945, in Forest City, Iowa, to Leslie and Helen (Westendorf) Pederson. Growing up on a farm near Scarville, Iowa, she enjoyed exploring the outdoors. Indeed, she spent many summer days investigating the beauty of nature. As an adult, she lived for many years at Opportunity Village in Clear Lake, Iowa. She enjoyed her job there as well as the friendship of many residents and staff members. In 2011, she moved to the Dumont Wellness Center where she was cared for by many loving staff members.
Although Kathleen had a mental disability, she had a great aptitude for remembering musical lyrics and jingles that she heard on the radio, and she, always, had a tune to sing. Spontaneously, she would often invent her own lyrics to the tunes she sang. Moreover, she had a little known wit around home that would often surprise and delight her family.
Preceded in death by her father, Leslie Pederson, and her brother, Gerald Pederson, Kathleen is survived by her mother, Helen (Westendorf) Pederson, of Cambridge, Minnesota, formerly of Scarville, Iowa; two brothers, David (Diane) Pederson, of Bloomington, Minnesota, and Randy (Ann) Pederson, of Grand Forks, North Dakota; and two sisters, Nancy (Robert) Youel, of Blaine, Minnesota, and Lorie (Robert) Callen, of Cambridge, Minnesota; as well as by three nieces, Erin Pederson, Leslie Pederson, and Kate Callen; and a nephew, Stephen Callen.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, March 28, 2015, at Bethel Lutheran Church, rural Vinje, Iowa, with Pastor Spering Scott officiating. Inurnment will take place at Bethel Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation with her family present will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery Fund.
