Alvira "Vi" Janette Kloster
(July 23, 1918 - January 28, 2015)

Alvira Janette (Johnson) Olson Kloster, 96, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died at the Lake Mills Care Center on Wednesday, January 28, 2015.

Alvira Janette Johnson, a daughter of Gustav and Alma (Svardahl) Johnson, was born on July 23, 1918, in Lake Mills, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at the Lutheran Church in Scarville, Iowa, she graduated from Scarville High School in 1937.

She married Harvey Manford Olson on August 27, 1939, and subsequently, they had two children, Joan and Ronald. Alvira worked on the couple’s dairy farm. On April 22, 1961, however, Harvey died.

In 1958, Alvira began a more than twenty year career at DeLuxe Products. She also sold Avon products for over thirty years. On June 21, 1964, Alvira married Carl Kloster at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

An expert fisherwoman, she traveled to many lakes in Minnesota and Canada with her husband, Carl. She enjoyed various hobbies including crocheting, gardening, playing bingo, baking, and taking care of her original homestead for more than seventy-five years.

Vi dedicated herself to her children, six grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. A seventy-year member of Salem Lutheran Church, she, actively, participated in Ladies Aide and Circle. Moreover, she was a long time member of the community service club, Rebekah Odd Fellows.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Gustav and Alma Johnson; her first husband, Harvey Olson; her second husband, Carl Kloster; her son, Ronald Olson; and four brothers, Palmer and Kenneth Johnson and Russell and Leslie Sunsvold.

Alvira will be greatly missed by her loving family including her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Derald Kloster, of Lake Mills; her daughter-in-law, Sherry (Tony) Leone, of Southington, Connecticut; a sister, Gladys (Johnson) Hanson, of Lake Mills; six grandchildren, Laura (Farhad) Farjood, of San Diego, California, Chad (Kelly) Kloster, of Lake Mills, Michael (Jil) Kloster, of Mason City, Jane (Dr. Todd) Greenfield, of Slinger, Wisconsin, Robyn (Randy) Finer, of Lake Mills, and Christine (Brett) Astin, of Barrington, New Hampshire; and eighteen great-grandchildren; as well as many other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM at Salem Lutheran Church on Sunday, February 1, 2015, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Cremation will follow the service, and inurnment will be at a later date at Salem Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church on Sunday.

Funeral services are being rescheduled because of the weather. Her service will be held at 10:00 AM at Salem Lutheran Church on Monday, February 2, 2015, with Pastor Melinda McCluskey officiating. Cremation will follow the service, and inurnment will be at a later date at Salem Memorial Cemetery.
