U.S. Veteran Blaine C. “Jim” Burdick, age 90, of Greenwood, Minnesota, died on Saturday, November 01, 2014, at the Friendship Village Retirement Home in Bloomington, Minnesota.

Blaine C. “Jim” Burdick was born on May 24, 1924, in Lake Mills, Iowa, a son of C. A. Burdick and Merle E. (Tapager) Burdick. He lived on the Burdick farm with his sisters, Mary Joy Norton and Carmen A. Boyington, and his brother, Ronald T. (R.T.) Burdick. He was baptized and confirmed at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Jim enjoyed the outdoors throughout his life. As a young man accompanied by his father, C. A. Burdick, and his brother, R. T. Burdick, he developed a passion for hunting and fishing. He, particularly, enjoyed their hunting and fishing trips to Canada and Florida. Jim, also, spent time flying his own airplane, boating, and traveling. In addition, he had many faithful dogs as family pets. He enjoyed a good meal, especially savoring the desserts.

After graduating from Lake Mills High School, Jim served his country in the Army during World War II. Upon his return from service, he attended and graduated from the University of Minnesota. The founder of Treasure Chest Gift Checks, (the original coupon book), he worked as a Real Estate developer in the Minneapolis area. For fifty-five years, he lived on Lake Minnetonka in Greenwood, Minnesota.

Jim is survived by Brigitte E. Burdick, his dedicated and loving wife of thirty-seven years. He wished to thank her for all of the support and care she gave him over the course of their marriage.

Jim is, also, survived by two sons, Blaine C. (Bonnie) Burdick and Brian H. (Patricia) Burdick; his step-children, Barbara (Joe) Spaude and Boris (Patsy) Beckert; six grandchildren; and eight nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, C. A. and Merle E. Burdick; his first wife, Frances; a brother, Ronald T. (Noreen) Burdick; and two sisters, Mary Joy (Nile) Norton and Carmen A. (William) Boyington.

Memorials may be directed to the Asbury United Methodist church, 107 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa, 50450.

The funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 5, 2014, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, Iowa. Visitation will be from 10:30 until 11:00 on Wednesday. Interment will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills, Iowa.
