Arlyn Peter “Pete” Boman
October 6, 1931 – November 25, 2012Arlyn Peter (Pete) Boman passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2012, at St Mary's Hospital, Rochester, Minnesota, after several weeks of on-going illnesses.
Pete was born on October 6, 1931, at the farm home of his parents, Albert and Leonore (Gettis) Boman, in Mount Valley Township, Winnebago County. His sister, Vinita, was born five years later. Pete attended Forest City Schools, graduating with the class of 1950. On March 20, 1951, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Philippines, Guam, and Kwajalein as a part of the Seabees, a construction battalion. On March 7, 1955, he was honorably discharged with a rank of SW-2.
Pete returned to his parents’ home that fall to farm with his father while also working as a butcher at Jacob E Decker and Sons Packing Plant. After the plant closed and the business was sold to Armour and Company, he worked in the processing plant, later known as Con-Agra, before retiring in 1994. Next, Pete worked for Arlyn Rauk and Mark Egesdal for many years, helping with the planting and harvesting.
Although Pete's father had always farmed with horses, the elder man finally bought a tractor at Pete’s urging after Pete returned from the Navy. Nonetheless, neither father nor son ever lost their love of horses. Pete acquired his first pony at age 4. Often times he was found napping on the pony's back while it was tied in the barn. The family did field work with teams of Belgian or Percheron horses, which they had raised on the farm. Pete, often, spent his leisure time riding Keno, his Moroccan stud-horse.
On June 3, 1961, Pete married Elizabeth Fredrickson at the First Baptist Church. They lived for a few months at the Clear Lake cottage her parents owned before moving to their first home in Mason City where they lived for eleven years. Wanting to raise their children on a farm, they moved to an acreage northeast of Forest City where they resided for thirty-five years. Then, in December, 2007, they moved to a new home right beside the house where Pete was born.
Pete taught his children, Tom, Theodore, and Nancy, so much about life on the farm. Baptized by immersion at a young age on an Easter Sunday morning, Pete accepted Christ as his Savior. Having joined the First Baptist Church, he served for several years on the Board of Trustees. Over the years, he became increasingly thankful and grateful for the way the Lord had blessed his life. In short, he served as a living testimony of faith in a God his children could trust. He loved his family, which includes ten grandchildren and two great grandchildren, and he enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them.
Family members anxious to join Pete who is now in the presence of the Lord include his wife, Elizabeth; his son, Tom, and his wife, Julie, and their children, Breeanna, and her husband, Kevin Erickson, and Arlyn Peter Boman II, all of Des Moines, his son, Theo, and his wife, Teri, of Webster City, and their children, Elizabeth, of Clear Lake, Barb, and her husband, Matt Etcher, of Lovillia, and Peter, Michelle, and Samuel, of Webster City; his daughter, Nancy, and her husband, Matt Gjerde, of Dunnegan, Missouri, and their children, Sonja, of Columbia, Missouri, Mason, of the US Navy, and Jamison of Dunnegan, Missouri; his great grandchildren, Kinnick and Kloe Etcher, of Lovillia; his sister, Vinita Cady; his nephews, David and Steven Cady; his brother-in-law, David, and his wife, Shirley, and their family, Tim and Karen Fredrickson, Lynnea and Danika, Carol and Doug Tweeten, Ryan, Drew, and Luke, Sue and Jeff Port, and Josh and Zach; as well as several cousins.
