Dale Robert Rosheim
(October 24, 1929 - May 10, 2014)U.S. Veteran
Longtime Anchorage resident, Dale R. Rosheim, age 84, died on May 10, 2014, in Anchorage, Alaska, at the Anchorage Pioneer Home while under Hospice Care.
Dale was born in Austin, Minnesota, on October 24, 1929, to Ivert and Vivian (Quenemoen) Rosheim. While he was growing up, his parents operated restaurants in several Minnesota towns. One of Dale’s first jobs was as a soda jerk. As a child, he spent many summers at the farm of Tilly and Knute Quill.
After graduating from Lake Mills High School, he joined the Army and served as a Pharmacy Technician at Fort Ord, California, from 1947 to 1948. After the service, he attended Iowa State Teachers College for two years.
Dale married Mary Lou Manny in 1962, and has a son, Iven Jorge, born on January 2, 1967, and a daughter, Ingrid Ann, born on October 2, 1968.
Dale’s career with Northwest Airlines (NWA) spanned forty-two years. After accepting the job in 1951, he was sent to Anchorage, Alaska. He held a number of positions at NWA including Alaska Sales Manager and Manager of the Airline Ticket Office (SATO) on Elmendorf AFB as well as several positions at Anchorage International Airport. Except for several years in New York at Idlewild Airport in the early 1960s, he spent all of his time in Anchorage.
In 1973, Dale married LaVonne “Bonnie” Berger. They spent as much time as possible at their cabin on Rainbow Lake both before and after they retired. They also loved to travel both in Alaska and outside the state, visiting with family. In addition, Dale enjoyed the Alaskan outdoors, camping, fishing, and hunting, especially goose hunting at Cold Bay, Alaska.
A prolific artist, Dale loved painting Alaskan subjects in bright colors, having developed his gift under Wassily Sommer at Anchorage Community College.
Always open to challenging experiences, Dale had the opportunity to drive truck at his sister-in-law’s farm in Wheaton, Minnesota, during the corn and bean harvest, the highlight of his retired years. And while there, he would visit the Casino in Rosholt, South Dakota, with Bonnie’s Mom.
He is survived by his spouse, LaVonne “Bonnie,” Berger; his son, Iven (Susan) Rosheim, and their daughter, Scarlet, of Big Sky, Montana; and his daughter, Ingrid (Thomas) Walsh, and their children, Maggie and Aidan, of Ivoryton, Connecticut.
Dale was preceded in death by his father, Ivert, in 1982, and his mother, Vivian, in1984; and two brothers, Keith, in April 1994, and Marlyn, in May 1994.
A prayer service will be held on Monday, May 19, 2014, at 1:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor Randy Baldwin officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 PM on Monday at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home. Burial will take place in North Prairie Cemetery, rural Leland, Iowa. The Otto Chose Post #235 will provide military honors. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date in Anchorage, Alaska. Arrangements are under the direction of Janssen Funeral Homes.
