Lucille Skogen, age 99, of Lake Mills, died on Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Lucille Anna (Gardalen) Skogen was born on November 6, 1908, to Erick and Ella (Ambroson) Gardalen on a farm near Thompson, Iowa. After attending a country school near her home, she enrolled at Thompson High School, graduating in 1927. That same year, she matriculated at Cedar Falls Teachers College and later completed a year at Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. For five years, she taught country school in the area where she lived.

On July 18, 1933, Lucille married Andrew Skogen. They farmed in Bristol Township [Worth County, Iowa] for many years. In 1952, they moved to a farm near Lake Mills, and Lucille became a member of Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills. She continued to reside on the farm until 2007.

Lucille entered the Lake Mills Care Center in 2007 where she lived until she was taken home on October 21, 2008, to be with the Lord.

Lucille’s favorite interests included reading, writing in her journal, and listening to her favorite radio programs. She liked traditional Christian music, and she supported many Christian ministries. She loved family gatherings, and enjoyed visiting with friends and family. Her love of Jesus influenced many lives.

Survivors include her children, Gwen (Charles) Wells, Miriam (Dick) Jondahl, Gerald (Darlene) Skogen, Judy (Harlan) Jacobson, John (Joan) Skogen, and Jane (Bruce) Smith; and many grandchildren and great grandchildren as well as several great-great grandchildren.

Those preceding her in death include her parents; her husband, Andrew; two sons, Charles and Leo; six sisters; and one brother.

A loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all, always interested in every aspect of family life, Lucille primary focused on praying for her family that they would all put their faith in Jesus and come to live with her one day in Heaven.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, October 25, 2008, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor W. Paul Weeg officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 PM, Friday evening, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home in Lake Mills, Iowa, and again one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa.

The family wishes to thank the Lake Mills Care Center and the Hospice of North Iowa staff for their loving kindness and concern shown to Lucille.
