Leo Andrew Skogen
(April 7, 1941 - August 22, 2008)

Leo Andrew Skogen, 67, of Lake Mills, passed away on Friday, August 22, 2008, at his home.

Leo was born on April 7, 1941, at home in Bristol Township [Worth County, Iowa], to Andrew and Lucille (Gardalen) Skogen. He, later, moved with his family to an acreage by Lake Mills.

Baptized on May 25, 1941, at Salem Lutheran Church, Lake Mills, Iowa, and confirmed on May 6, 1956, Leo graduated from Lake Mills High School on May 29, 1959. He proudly served his country in the National Guard.

On October 8, 1966, Leo married Ramona Eggum in Forest City, Iowa. They lived in Lake Mills and had three children, Melanie, Dan, and Beth.

On April 3, 1999, Leo married Jill Vosler at Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota. Jill’s children, Heather, Cliff, and Mark, joined to make this blended family.

Leo loved Jesus and wanted everyone to know Him too. He worked hard and gave of himself, his money, and his time. He worked with Sorensen Bros. Construction before setting out on his own as owner and operator of Skogen Systems Tree Service and Tile Yard. Some men like to golf and fish, but Leo liked to work hard, trim trees, drive heavy equipment, and witness to anyone who would listen. He had a passion for kids. He participated in “The Bridge” (Youth For Christ), and loved to watch his children and grandchildren compete in their sporting events and other school activities.

"The Crown"
By Leo A. Skogen August 25, 2007

A golden crown will adorn your brow,
If to God you will humbly bow,
Jesus paid it all for you and me.
He suffered and died upon a tree.

Let’s not be weary in doing well,
But tell them about Jesus, their escape from Hell,
Lend a hand to pull them in,
Jesus’ blood will cleanse them from sin.

Welcome home Jesus will say,
Your name is in the book, you’re here to stay,
There is your home just down the street,
And you kneel down and lay your crown at His feet.

Leo is survived by his wife, Jill Skogen, of Lake Mills; his three children and his grandchildren: Melanie (Mike) Throne, and their five children, Christopher, Taylor, Matthew, Zachary, and Kristyn, all of Vinje, Iowa; Dan (Jody) Skogen, and their daughter, Tara, of Marion, Iowa; Beth (Aaron) Van Roekel, and their son, Kade, of Vinje, Iowa; his mother, Lucille Skogen, of Lake Mills, Iowa; his mother- and father-in-law, Roger and Marilyn Nelson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota; three step-children and step-grandchildren: Heather Anderson, and her children, Dusti and Trenton; Cliff (Jodi) Anderson, and their two children, Deven and Jorgen; Mark (Joyce) Vosler; and his siblings: Gwen (Charles) Wells; Miriam (Dick) Jondahl; Gerry (Darlene) Skogen; Judy (Harlan) Jacobson; John (Joan) Skogen; Jane (Bruce) Smith.
