David D. Buckley
June 21, 1941 - August 7, 2013

MASON CITY - Surrounded by his family, David D. Buckley, 72, of Mason City, died on Wednesday, August 7, 2013, at his home following a short and courageous battle with lung cancer.

David Dean Buckley, a son of Clyde and Viola (Moen) Buckley, was born on June 21, 1941, at the Irish Hospital in Forest City, Iowa. Baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Forest City and confirmed at Elk Creek Lutheran Church near Kensett, he attended country schools and later graduated from Hanlontown High School in 1959. In 1961, he married Deanna Dahl, and to this union were born Denise, Dawn, Darren, and Dana. The couple later divorced.

Dave "Buck" had a very strong work ethic and had several different jobs that took him to many parts of the country. In his early career, he worked locally for J & L Tire, The Creamery, Arco Fertilizer, Joice Elevator, and Kensett Homes as well as running his own terragating business. In 1986, he moved south and became a Regional Manager for Glacier Water. After retiring, he chose to return to live closer to his family.

Very talented, Dave was always tinkering on a project and generously assisting others. He had numerous hobbies including fishing, camping, gardening, building and remodeling homes, woodworking, and restoring cars and trucks. He was very proud of his having restored his father's Chevy pickup. In his younger years, he enjoyed riding his Indian Chief motorcycle. He had a unique sense of humor and always had a amusing story to tell that left his listeners laughing and smiling. He also really enjoyed attending his grandchildren's sporting events and other activities.

Dave is survived by his children, Denise (Kurt) Hanson, of Mason City, Dawn Buckley-Jackson, of Cedar Falls, Darren Buckley, of Mason City, and Dana Hrubetz (Todd Patterson), of Manly; his grandchildren, Tiffany and Tanner Hanson, Kendall and Kasey Jackson, Jadda Buckley, Danielle and Kaitlyn Hrubetz, and Zach and Thomas Patterson; a sister, Janet Jerde, of Clarion; and an aunt, Virginia Schmidt, of Forest City; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clyde and Viola Buckley; his brother, Jerrold Buckley; his brother-in-law, James Jerde; and his nephew, Jeff Buckley.

As per his wishes, his body was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the Petersen Lund Funeral Home, 505 N. Clark Street, Forest City, with Hospice Chaplain Janet Dorenkamp officiating. Inurnment will be at Oakland Cemetery in Forest City. Visitation will be held an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
