(June 27, 1933 - August 13, 2007)Ardith J. Holstad, age 74, of Lake Mills, died on Monday, August 13, 2007, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa.
Ardith Joann (Weibye) Holstad was born on June 27, 1933, in Eagle Bend, Minnesota, to Marshall and Opal (White) Weibye. She attended and graduated from Eagle Bend High School. Following her schooling, she took a position as dean of girls at Maplewood Academy in Minnesota. During this time, a mutual friend introduced her to Dean Holstad, who lived in California. The two began a lasting long-distance relationship.
On June 12, 1966, Ardith and Dean married in Minneapolis, Minnesota. After about five years in California, they returned to the Midwest settling in Lake Mills, Iowa. In Lake Mills, Ardith worked for Fleetguard Industries while Dean took over his father’s barber shop. Ardith worked in the personnel department at Fleetguard and retired with twenty-one years of experience.
With an infectious laugh and a wonderful smile, Ardith was a friend to all who met her. She loved children of any age, and frequently babysat for others just to help them out. Always one to remain busy, Ardith spent many hours volunteering at the RSVP program in Forest City, the Lake Mills Community School, the WCTA phone company, and the American Legion Auxiliary. Most importantly, however, she valued her faith and her church. Active at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Albert Lea, she had served as the church treasurer.
Survivors include her husband, Dean Holstad, of Lake Mills, Iowa; two step-children and their families, Steve (Kristi) Holstad, of Albertville, Minnesota, and their children, (Robyn Jacobson, of Albertville, Minnesota, Jeremy (Brooke) Jacobson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, Maren and Thor Holstad, of Albertville, Minnesota), and Laura Carman, and her son, Wesley, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a brother, Marsall (Marlys) Weibye, of Hillsboro, North Dakota; a sister, Darlene (James) Johnston, of The Villages, Florida; and an uncle, Richard Burns Weibye, of Boise, Idaho; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, Richard M. Weibye.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 PM on Friday, August 17, 2007, at the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota, with Pastor Norman Johnson officiating. Burial will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery in Lake Mills, Iowa. Visitation will be on Thursday, August 16, 2007, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.
