(January 15, 1906 - December 7, 2011)Vivian A. Witham, 105, of Austin, died on Wednesday, December 7, 2011, at St. Mark’s Lutheran Home in Austin. Minnesota.
Vivian Anita Ausen was born on January 15, 1906, at Odin, Minnesota, the daughter of Gilbert and Margaret (Arneson) Ausen. She graduated from high school in Lake Mills, Iowa. After attending normal school, she taught in country schools near Decorah and Lake Mills, Iowa.
Vivian married Howard Witham in October of 1929 at the St. Olaf’s Lutheran parsonage in Austin, Minnesota. They would eventually live in Lake Mills, Iowa, and Blue Earth and Fairmont, Minnesota. After her husband’s death Vivian moved to Austin, Minnesota.
A longtime resident of the Twin Towers and The Cedars of Austin, Vivian was a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church and a former member of St. Olaf’s Lutheran Church in Austin. An avid reader, she also enjoyed traveling. An excellent cook and gardener, she liked sharing the efforts of her work and stories of her gardening experiences. In addition, she enjoyed sewing and doing embroidery.
Vivian was preceded in death by her husband, Howard; her son, William; her grandson, Jon Berg; her granddaughter, Audrey Witham; and her great grandson, Zachary Witham; as well as two brothers and three sisters.
Vivian is survived by her children, Norma Berg, of Houston, Texas, Stan and Shirley Witham, of Osage, Iowa, and Audrey and Jack Hastings, of Austin, Minnesota; her daughter-in-law, Pat Witham, of Ephrata, Washington; twelve grandchildren; twenty-six great grandchildren; twenty-four great-great-grandchildren; and her sister, Ruth Jacobson, of Albert Lea, Minnesota, as well as by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM, Saturday, December 10, 2011, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Austin with the Reverend Karen Behling officiating. Interment will be in the Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills, Iowa. Visitation will be held at the church on Saturday from noon until the time of the service. The Clasen-Jordan Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. The family prefers memorials to Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
