(July 29, 1932 - December 10, 2006)Burlette R. O. Branstad, age 74, of Lake Mills, died on Sunday, December 10, 2006, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota.
Burlette Ramona Orlette (Salveson) Branstad was born on July 29, 1932, in Winnebago County, Iowa, to Oscar and Amanda (Bergland) Salveson. Baptized at Winnebago Lutheran Church and confirmed at Salem Lutheran Church, Burlette attended and graduated from Lake Mills High School.
On November 3, 1951, Burlette married Floyd Branstad in a ceremony conducted by Rev. Thomas Boe. They made their home in Lake Mills where Burlette worked as a cook for many years at the Lake Mills Community School. She also worked for Stoyles Graphic Publishing and the Lake Mills Care Center.
Burlette loved to cook, bake, and share goodies with her family and friends. She also enjoyed last minute coffee parties with her friends. Burlette’s hobbies were decorating for the holidays and doing volunteer work at the Lake Mills Care Center. She was an active member of Salem Lutheran Church and American Legion Auxiliary. She always looked forward to going to Minneapolis to spend time with her children.
Burlette is survived by her children, Marcia Schulz, and her fiancé, Gary Knutson, Linda Harris, and her husband, Mike, and Steve Branstad, and his wife, Gwenn, all of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Rachel Bye, and her husband, Harris, of Scarville, Iowa, and Robert Branstad, and his friend, John Grimes, of New Auburn, Wisconsin; her grandchildren, Jon Michael and Amanda Schulz, Anthony and Sonja Bye, Emily Harris, and Peter, Toby, and Sam Branstad; her great-granddaughter, Kilea Marie Schulz; her sister-in-law, Avis Amundson, and her husband, Lester, of Northwood; and her brother-in-law, Raymond Branstad, of Corpus Christie, Florida; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Burlette was preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Amanda Salveson; her husband, Floyd; her mother- and father-in-law, Elmer and Anna Branstad; and two sisters-in-law, Bernice Peterson and Lois Branstad.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Thursday, December 14, 2006, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills with Rev. W. Paul Weeg officiating. Burial will take place at Center Cemetery, rural Lake Mills. Visitation will be on held Wednesday, December 13, 2006, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
