Maxine Jean Shropshire, 89, of Clear Lake, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday April 24, 2013, at her residence.

Maxine was born on March 15, 1924, a daughter of Andrew & Laura (Johnson) Moen at Forest City, Iowa. In 1942, she graduated from Forest City High School. For four years, she taught in county schools in rural Thompson and Forest City. She, then, married Glenn Shropshire on March 4, 1944, at Thompson, Iowa.

Maxine enjoyed crafts, flowers, homemaking, and operating her clothing store, Country Closet, in her basement. A member of Galilean Lutheran Church, Bible Study, and the Church Council, she organized the church funeral lunches for many years.

Maxine is survived by her husband, Glenn Shropshire; four children, Larry (Gail) Shropshire, of Fertile, Judy (Ron) McGrath, of Hiawatha, Iowa, Susan (Wayne) Foreman, of Sheffield, Iowa, and Randy Shropshire, of Clear Lake, Iowa; a sister, Virginia Schmidt, of Forest City, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Chad (Misty) Shropshire, of Garner, Iowa, Heather Burt and Vance Shropshire, of Kingman, Arizona, Darcie McGrath, of Marion, Iowa, Sean McGrath, of Cedar Rapids, Troy (Rachel) Foreman, of Waverly, Iowa, Scott (Jeri) Foreman, of Hampton, Iowa, Sarah (Charlie) Shirk, of Hampton, Iowa, Ryan (Taryn) Shropshire, of Olathe, Kansas, and Amanda Shropshire, of San Antonio, Texas; nineteen great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother-in-law, Clyde Buckley; her sister, Viola Buckley; and her brother, Obert Moen.

Memorial Services will be held at 1:30 p.m., Saturday April 27, 2013, at the Galilean Lutheran Church, 4454 255th St, Clear Lake, Iowa, with Pastor Scot McCluskey officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00p.m., Friday, at the Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 North 4th St, Clear Lake, and then one hour prior to the service at the Church. Inurnment will be at a later date at Elmwood Cemetery, Forest City, Iowa. The family suggest memorials be made to the Maxine Jean Shropshire Memorial Fund.
