James D. Roeder
(March 10, 1949 - April 12, 2013)

James Roeder, age 64, of Thompson, passed away on Friday, April 12, 2013, at his home in Thompson surrounded by his family.

James Daniel, the youngest of five sons, was born on March 10, 1949, in Charles City, Iowa, to Agnes (O’Neill) and James Martin.

He attended Greene Community School in Greene, Iowa, graduating in 1968. After his high school graduation, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Army for three years. He served one year of combat service in Vietnam before finishing his duty at Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

On July 14, 1967, he married Vicki Lyne Bean. They had a daughter, Lyne, and a son, James.

After his discharge from the military, Jim worked at Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa, as a security guard. He was one of the first to train with the security dogs in the early 1970s. Later, he returned to school at Sheldon, Iowa, to become a power lineman. He, then, worked for Winnebago Rural Electric (Heartland Power) in Thompson for twenty-three years. He was also a member of the Vietnam Veterans of America Chapter 790.

Jim and his wife, Vicki, enjoyed traveling and spending winters in Somerville, Texas, as volunteers for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. He also liked fishing and spending time with his family. He was very proud of his children and grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Vicki; his daughter, Lyne Roeder (Scott Sevley), of Thompson; his son, Jim (Darcy) Roeder, of Buffalo Center; his grandchildren: Kristen, Brittany, Jamie, Samantha, William, and Robert; his great-grandsons, Axl and Lincoln; his brothers, Gary Roeder, of Nashua, and Thomas (Mary) Roeder, of Springfield, Missouri; and a special nephew, Bruce Roeder, of Springfield, Missouri; as well as aunts and uncles.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, his stepfathers, Herman Roeder and Glenn O’Neill; his brothers, John and Bruce Roeder; his brother-in-law, Donald Bean; and a niece, Brenda Roeder-Franklin.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 20, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Thompson with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at a later date.
