Jeanette Mae Herfendahl
(April 30, 1914 - January 17, 2013)Jeanette Mae Herfendahl, age 98, of Fairmont, Minnesota, formerly of the Emmons area, died on Thursday, January 17, 2013, at the Mayo Clinic Health System-Fairmont.
Jeanette Mae Herfendahl was born on April 30, 1914, to Ben and Ella (Alberts) Westendorf at Buffalo Center, Iowa. After attending country school through the eighth grade, she worked at the Cool Springs Canning Company in Lake Mills for many years. On December 18, 1937, she married Alton Herfendahl at Northwood, Iowa.
A homemaker all of her life, Jeanette was a wonderful mother, a loving grandmother, and a devoted great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, baking, and cooking. She made lefsa for many years for stores and people in the area. An avid reader, she also spent time doing crossword puzzles, and she loved the Minnesota Twins. In addition, she loved having tea in the afternoon with family and friends.
She lived in Emmons most of her life before moving to Albert Lea, Minnesota. She was a member of the Emmons Lutheran Church and Trinity Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Minnesota.
Those left to cherish her love and memory include her sons, Marlin (Sharon), Arden (Dawn Scott), Harold (Mary), and Dale (Tammy); her daughter, Julie (Steve) Miller; her grandchildren, Dave (Vicki) Herfendal, Greg (Wendy) Herfendal, Melanie (Dan) DeVries, Jennifer (Brian) Keogh, Eric Herfendal, Erin Herfendal, Crystal (Matt) Price, Cash Miller; her great grandchildren, Shaun Haugerud; Kelly, Haley, and Ashley Herfendal; Keira and Conor Keogh; Katie DeVries; and Brayden and Alexsia Price; her step-grandchildren, Mike (Dawn) Swalve and Kristi (Joel) Hantelman; her step-great-grandchildren, Brittany, Zakk, and Stephen DeVries; Ian Wildeman; and Ferran and Paisley Hantelman; a sister, Helen Pederson; and a brother, Ray Westendorf; along with several nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons at birth; her sisters, Minnie, Frances, Alice, and Anna; her brother, Bennie; a grandson, Tim Morris; and a daughter-in-law, Judy Herfendahl.
Funeral service will be at 1:30 PM, Wednesday, January 23, 2013, at Emmons Lutheran Church in Emmons, Minnesota, with Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch officiating. Visitation will be at the church in Emmons one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Burial will take place at Oak Lawn Cemetery in rural Emmons, Minnesota.
