Gladys Ruth (Olson) Groe, age 84, of Lake Mills, died Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.

Gladys Ruth (Olson) Groe was born on June 29, 1928, near Joice, Iowa, to Hartvig and Lillie (Block) Olson. Baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church, she attended Dahlside grade school in rural Joice and Joice High School, graduating in 1946.

On November 9, 1946, Gladys married Noreen Groe at Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Joice. The couple made their home in Worth County, Bristol Township, where Gladys tended to their home and growing family. She was a Sunday school teacher at Concordia and a member of the Ladies Aid and Circle. She also worked at the Plastics factory in Lake Mills. Subsequently, they moved to Northwood, Iowa, where she worked in the school kitchen for many years. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, bowling, and mowing the lawn on the farm. She and Noreen moved to Lake Mills in 2004.

Survivors include three sons, Dan Groe, and his wife, Toni, of Sandstone, Minnesota, Darwin Groe, and his wife, Sandi, of Lake Mills, and Daryl Groe, and his wife, Cheri, of Lake Mills; seven grandchildren and their families, Chris (Reina) Groe, and their children, Casey and Danny; Erin (Caine) Babiarz; Blake (Becca) Groe; Cory (Michelle) Schriever; Ryan (Jamie) Schriever, and their children Cullan and Colby; Jeff (Kelly) Groe, and their son, Alex; and Jodi (Luke) Ouverson, and their children Evan, Sam, and Ella; and a sister, Eva Trebil, of Lake Mills; as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended relatives.

Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Noreen; her parents; and two brothers, Frank and Ray Olson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Joice, Iowa, with Pastor Bill Peters officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery, rural Joice. Visitation for Gladys will be on Friday, January 18, 2013, from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
