Betty Florence Tiedman
(May 27, 1929 - March 6, 2007)

Betty F. Tiedman, 77, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died on Tuesday, March 06, 2007, at the Lake Mills Care Center in Lake Mills, Iowa.

Betty Florence (Bergland) Tiedman, the daughter of Walter and Evelyn (Charlson) Bergland, was born on May 27, 1929, on a farm near Joice, Iowa. Baptized and confirmed at Concordia Lutheran Church, rural Joice, she attended country schools and Hanlontown High School for three years before graduating from Lake Mills High School in 1947. She, then, went on to attend and graduate from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa, after which she taught first grade in Thompson, Iowa, for five years.

On November 19, 1953, Betty married Donald Tiedman at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. After their marriage, she became a homemaker and helped Don run the farm. She always had hot coffee in the pot and plenty of goodies to eat.

Betty always made her family and her church the focal point of her life. Continually on the go, working with her flowers, doing embroidery work, and cooking for family and friends, she had seemingly boundless amounts of energy. She made the best lemon meringue pie in the world, completely from scratch. Her hobbies included golfing, gardening, and drinking coffee with her friends. Most of all, however, she enjoyed making life-history scrapbooks for her two sons and four grandchildren. In addition, she was an active member at Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills.

Avid Iowa Hawkeye fans, Betty and Don made a point of watching every game possible. She loved to travel and especially enjoyed her trip three years ago with Don and her sister and brother-in-law, Ruth and Roger Hermanson, to Washington, D.C.

Betty is survived by her husband, Donald; two sons, Dan (Sonja) Tiedman and Dave (Carol) Tiedman, all of Lake Mills; four grandchildren, Sara, Mick, Josh, and Casey Tiedman, also all of Lake Mills; two sisters, Ruth Hermanson, and her husband, Roger, of Lake Mills, and Rachel Gillmann, and her husband, Don, of Lincoln City, Oregon; her sisters-in-law, Elaine (Bob) Hallstrom and Bernice Wehman; and her brother-in-law, Les Tiedman; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Evelyn Bergland; and her brother, Wallace Bergland.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, March 9, 2007, at the Asbury United Methodist Church in Lake Mills with Pastor Audrey Young officiating. Burial will take place at Sunnyside Cemetery, Lake Mills. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Thursday, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
