Dorothy Ruth Moen, 81, of rural Emmons, Minnesota, died Thursday, October 04, 2012, at the Pioneer Skilled Nursing Center in Marceline, Missouri.

Dorothy Ruth Moen was born on March 20, 1931, to the late James and Anne (Stene) Brua at their rural home in Worth County Iowa. After graduating from Lake Mills High School in 1949, she married Gene Moen on October 15, 1950, at the Silver Lake Lutheran Church, Northwood, Iowa.

Dorothy and her husband lived on their family farm in rural Emmons their entire married lives. She worked as the bookkeeper and cabinet finishing specialist for the family construction business. In addition, she supported her husband in their farming operation. She was a long time member of Emmons Lutheran Church.

Dorothy and Gene raised two daughters, Paulette and Shelly, who both went on to become pharmacists. She especially enjoyed holidays and birthdays with her children, three grandchildren, and six great grandchildren and their families.

Dorothy and Gene enjoyed traveling. During their fifty-eight years of married life, they visited all fifty States and many European countries. Dorothy also enjoyed doing crafts including hardanger and rosemaling, and she shared her treasures with her family.

Dorothy is survived by her two daughters, Paulette, and her husband, Stan Dahlby, of Overland Park, Kansas, and Shelly, and her husband, Patrick Brackey, of Marceline, Missouri; her three grandchildren, James, and his wife, Heather Dahlby, Audra, and her husband, Brad Gladbach, and Julie, and her husband, Greg Hunt; and six great-grandchildren: Megan, Madigan, Kate, Berlin, Cayden, and James, Jr. In addition to her immediate family, she is also survived by two brothers, Ardell, and his wife, Alfreda Brua, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Eldo Brua, of Maryville, Tennessee, as well as several nieces and nephews.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Gene Moen; and her sister-in-law, Geraldine Brua.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 AM, Wednesday, October 10, 2012, at the Emmons Lutheran Church with Rev. Dr. Cathi Braasch, STS, officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place at Silver Lake Lutheran Cemetery in rural Northwood, Iowa.
