Carma Sylvia Flugum
(January 31, 1919 - July 18, 2012)Carma Sylvia Flugum, 93, of Lake Mills, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 18, 2012, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, Iowa.
Carma Sylvia Flugum was born on January 31, 1919, in Logan Township, Winnebago County, Iowa, the daughter of George Melvin and Amanda Christina Sletten Hovland. She was baptized at Lime Creek Lutheran Church in rural Emmons, Minnesota, and confirmed at Bethel Lutheran Church at Vinje, Iowa.
On June 15, 1938, she married Hamlet Alton Moe at Scarville, Iowa, in the Lutheran Parsonage. Hamlet died on October 1967.
On February 22, 1986, she married Walter Raymond Flugum at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa.
A devoted wife and a loving mother, Carma loved her role as a homemaker, cooking for her family. According to the grandchildren, she was an expert at making kringla and sour cream drop cookies. She also had a deep concern for our salvation. For many years a member of the Salem Altar Guild, she also taught Sunday school and sang in the church choir. In her early years, Carma worked at Deluxe Products, and later, at the Lake Mills Care Center until her retirement.
She is survived by her three children, Duane A. (Karen) Moe, of Forest City, Iowa, Arlene B. (Wayne) Sprecher, of Lake Mills, Iowa, and Warren G. (Jean) Moe, of Urbandale, Iowa; ten grandchildren, Debbie (Steve) Strom, Colette Wyatt, Deanna Aasland, Dale (Paula) Aasland, Douglas Aasland, Kevin (Amy) Sprecher, Rhonda (Dan) Schriever, Kyle Sprecher, Jeff (Sheila) Moe, and Amy Shaver; as well as many great- and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother-in-law, Everett Nelson, of Madison Lake, Minnesota.
She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Amanda Hovland; her first husband, Hamlet Moe, in 1967; her second husband, Walter Flugum, in 2010; her sisters, Hilma (Arnold) Olien, Mildred (Everett) Nelson, and Clarine (Harlan) Moe; her great-grandaughter, Megan Charlson; and two great-great grandchildren, Tristan Charlson and Brianna Crail.
Carma touched many hearts and will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Blessed be her memory.
Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Sunday, July 22, 2012, at Salem Lutheran Church in Lake Mills, Iowa, with Pastor David E. Jordon officiating.
Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 PM, Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 East Main Street, Lake Mills, and again one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will take place at Salem Memorial Cemetery, Lake Mills.
