December 13, 1927 - May 18, 2008Evelyn DeVries, 80, of Buffalo Center, died Sunday, May 18, 2008, at the Titonka Care Center in Titonka.
Evelyn L. DeVries, the daughter of Dick and Etta (Harringa) Beenken, was born on December 13, 1927, near Titonka, Iowa.
She married Richard DeVries on June 22, 1950, at the Ramsey Reformed Church.
After attending Waldorf College, Evelyn taught elementary school at Lakota and Buffalo Center Community Schools. She also assisted her husband with farming, and for a while, she worked at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center.
Evelyn kept busy in her spare time doing crafts, making pinecone wreaths, and gardening. An avid sports fan, she dearly loved the moments spent with her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband, Richard ‘Dick’ DeVries; two children: Tim, and his wife, Lisa DeVries, of Hudson, Wisconsin, and Patricia, and her husband, Tom Holland, of Buffalo Center, Iowa; six grandchildren: Chris Holland, of Mason City, Tony Holland, of Eden Prairie, Minnesota, Ted DeVries, of St. Peter, Minnesota, Andy Price, of New Brighton, Minnesota, Hanna DeVries, of Mankato, Minnesota, and Jeffrey Price, of Hudson, Wisconsin; three great grandchildren: Carsyn Holland and Ethan and Lacey Price; two brothers: her twin, Erwin Beenken, of Silver Springs, Texas, and Richard Beenken, of Algona, Iowa.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents.
Memorial services were held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, May 22, 2008, at the First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Pastor Bill Peake officiating.
